IRIS B&B in DEBED CANYON

The location was ideal for me to hike, and to visit ancient monasteries. The van from Tbilisi brought me right to the lodging. Our hostess, Iris, arranged for the van to Verevan to pick me up there. But this place is most special because of Iris, welcoming us into a home.

Without a car, I needed patience finding a taxi back at the end of the day. But eventually, I always got one, who charged me exactly what the morning taxi, arranged by Iris, had charged me.

Amazing location. Perfect place to visit this beautiful region of Armenia. You feel like home.

Lovely location, views of the river and canyon. Peaceful location a short taxi ride from the centre of town. Home-cooked meals and breakfast were good, straightforward home-cooking and generous portions (not quite such good value for the vegan in our group - but this is the case just about everywhere!). Dorm rooms were basic, but comfortable. The other rooms had lovely balconies and views. Irina was very helpful, helping us to organise transport on to Yerevan. We had a very enjoyable day taking a taxi up to Sanahin and then walking back to Alaverdi (via a footpath which was a bit of a scramble, but straightforward). This was a fascinating and beautiful area of Armena and Iris B&B was a great base for our visit

The owner is very friendly. Breakfast is good. Comfortable beds. Quite location. Spacious bathroom.

No A/C or fan and no fridge in the room. It was very hot and if you keep the door open for some fresh air, lots of mosquitoes go inside the room. It was challenging!
