Relais La Costa Historical Residence

Beautifully appointed, nice and secluded, excellent staff.

Relais La Costa is certainly off the beaten path, but well worth it. It is of course quite old, but beautifully restored. It is extremely quiet and peaceful. From it's hillside location, it affords panoramic views of the valley below. Dario and the staff were wonderful. Extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, and very willing share tips and advice on what to visit in the area. Our room directly above the restaurant was very spacious and quite nice (although lighting in the room could be improved), and each morning we awoke to the sound of singing birds and the aroma of freshly baked bread. Our schedule precluded having dinner at the on-site restaurant, but the breakfasts were excellent. Fresh, plentiful selection and quantity, and delicious. The experience here was one of the highlights of our 2-week Tuscany vacation, and we would definitely stay here again.

As noted, the lighting in the room could be better. Also, all of the windows in our room were oddly positioned. Only about 1 yard/meter in height, but starting at floor level so we could not really enjoy the expansive views from our room. There was a hot tub on the property, but it was out of of order.

After being in major tourist cities in Italy, Venice, Rome and the cities of the amalfi coast, we were happy to receive respite in the hills of Tuscany at Relais La Costa! My favorite feature of this property is the physical building and location. The building is restored with timeless charm and rustic luxury with the most breathtaking views ever changing as the sun and clouds work in tandem and solo to cast their beauty upon the land below. The land of the sun rise is different than sunset and throughout the day. Gorgeous! It cannot be described in words. One must experience it. The staff are excellent as well! Morris (not his formal name) what he told me to call him, works in the courtyard and dining. He is there and prepares and serves breakfast and dinner for us. I’m not sure if he does other things, certainly I’m sure…..but he was always available throughout our mornings and afternoons and evenings to provide excellent customer service. For example, fresh brewed coffee in the morning, spritz in the afternoon with snacks and 4 course dinners. He is a genius in the kitchen! Just let them cook for you! Don’t alter the menu! Many ingredients are grown on the property! And everything else is sourced locally and truly the freshest most delicious meals I had the opportunity to enjoy in Italy! Relais La Costa gets our number 1 vote for comfort, luxury, excellent service, food and wine for our entire 2 week trek throughout Italy! Thank you, we will be back!
