Nice hostel, well located

Excellent location. While the male staff members were all friendly and helpful, it was the female check in staff that was truly wonderful and really took care of all the women staying at the hostel. She always asked if we wanted to be with other girls and made sure to put us in a room together, ensuring our safety. The rooms were good too and the attached showers and toilets were a real convenience.

I wish the beds had curtains, but it wasn't too much of a bother.

Acceptable hostel at a very good price

It was close to everything. The rooms were very big and had a table and a chair, which I always appreciate to leave my things. I appreciate the toilette and bathroom inside the room, I’ve noticed it’s a thing in France.

The shared kitchen was dirty and poorly equipped. Personally I had a bad experience because they messed up my booking and took my things away from my bed while I was away (I still had a night left) and they ended up losing my towel, a travel pillow and my clothes I had left on my bed. The front desk guy fixed it for me and assigned me a new room but even though I know ir wasn’t his fault I was expecting a more compensating attitude since it was clearly the hostel’s responsibility (at least someone could have helped me carry my bags to the room). This brings me to another point which is the rooms are in different buildings and there are many stairs in between and no elevator or ramp to make things easier.

Can be very nice!

Location is perfect, the staff are very nice. Your comfort highly depends on your roommates, I stayed in two rooms, the first one was horrible, then I moved to a new room and it was super nice.

The room was too small, air trapped. Toilet and bathroom was not very clean.

A good base in Marseille, nice ambience, everything is nearby,

The ambience of Vertigo is the best aspect. It is a friendly place, with a nice overall feeling..

There is a lack of chairs and tables for the outside veranda. One table and 2 chairs only. The breakfast was spartan, and not of great quality. There were no activities or walks organised.

A well located, lively hostel

Very good location and good communal areas for meeting other travellers. Bathrooms were clean

No chairs in kitchen area and lots of people using one small space for the kitchen. If someone moved on the top bunk, the bottom bed shook quite a lot. Air conditioning in bedrooms was nice but there wasn’t any in the kitchen/communal space so it was unpleasant to relax in.

The location was good - close to Vieux-Port. Clean hostel.

The air-conditioning was very ineffective so it was warm in the room and difficult to sleep because of that.

Fun and lovely hostel

Social, clean, nice place and good kitchen utilities. washing machine was relatively cheap, and only a 5 minute walk from harbour.

Great central location, but overall not worth the price

The hostel is in a central location, making it easy to get around. The 8-bed room was spacious and came with two bathrooms that were nicely clean.

Unfortunately, the sheets were stained on both available beds, which felt uncomfortable despite being technically clean. Lockers came without locks unless you gave exactly 5 euros in cash—no change provided. The curtain rod was poorly made and nearly fell on me, and despite having AC, the room felt hot and lacked proper lighting or effective window coverings. Staff were fine, but the experience didn’t match the price point.

Nice hostel for a solo traveler

The staff is friendly and helpful. The place is clean and organized and the location is great.

Sometimes the food I leave in the fridge (marked with my name and date) keeps being taken by other people but I guess sharing is caring :D

Great location with just a 5 min walk downhill to vieu port, kitchen, nice rooms, lockers. Open 24-7

No free breakfast and it was loud as the street noise is hard to deal with

Location based in the heart of the city which is ideal for basic amenities and visiting popular landmarks, staff were great and very accommodating. Good value for money with an overall relaxed environment and secure system in operating.

Hostel in the center of it all

It's one of the best hostels I've been to. A place where you easily make new contact with a lot of people in the mainroom. I had an amazing time here and met so many new friends. The hostel is located in the center where it all happens. Everything you want is at walking distance from this hostel. Staff were really nice to us and very helpful. The place is clean and the rooms are huge. I recommend you to try this hostel, and you will notice yourself that it's an amazing place to be!

Decent, large hostel with reasonable facilities

This is quite a large hostel with a range of room options. It is in a good location and seemed to have good facilities overall. The beds were comfy and each dorm has its own toilet and bathroom.

The toilet and bathroom were a little dirty and the overall feel of the place was similar. There was a fair bit of noise from adjoining dorms which had much louder occupants. It was a bit pricey for what it was but there was a major event when I went so everything in the city was expensive.

the hostel has a lot of potential but it needs some tidying up

The location was impeccable, very close to the city center and the metro/bus, as well as the attractions. also 10/10 to the employees and the people we ended up meeting, since most of them were staying at the hostel because of Beyoncé’s concert.

So… the room was not the the same as they showed on the pictures. even though we landed 4 individual beds, instead of two bunk beds, we had no windows and the room was very hot. we had to ask the reception to turn on the AC and it stayed on for only 1h. the beds and the pillows were not comfortable, they had a dent in the center of the mattress. the common areas, such as the kitchen, the fridge, the bathroom, the couches, the dining tables, were not clean. everything was very sticky or smelled funny, which made the meals very uncomfortable. a couple of pans were dirty, for instances. also the quick essentials for cooking, such as olive oil ou napkins- which anyone staying at a hostel wouldn’t buy because of a short stay - were missing.
