Location.
Our private bathroom was outside of our room. The answer we found in the shower.

Friendly, helpful host met us at the 2nd floor apartment (no lift, but not a problem) and showed us around. It was spacious and a little quirky, which I liked, with a private terrace that had a fantastic view of Mount Etna. It was centrally located for the historic area, 1 minute walk from the fish and open market, 4 minutes from the bus stop to go to the central train and bus stations and had a good, cheap breakfast place around the corner.
Can be noisy at night, especially bikes roaring up and down the road into the small hours at the weekend.

Excellent location felt very safe even late at night.
The terrace was great to sit out on - so long as you can cope with some bird poo!
We were able to get very cheap breakfast at the cafe straight across the road
Quite noisy on Friday and Sat nights but very entertaining to watch the traffic chaos below from the terrace!
