Merulana Inn Guest House

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. While the hotel and rooms are on the smaller side, it's an excellent choice if you plan to spend most of your time out sightseeing. The staff were some of the friendliest and most accommodating we've ever encountered. The ladies on the front desk were so sweet and lovely. They went above and beyond to make my birthday special, decorating the room with balloons and banners before our arrival and even surprised me by singing Happy Birthday. Our room was very clean and the mini fridge was very handy to have. The air con was so powerful we were freezing at one point LOL. Much appreciated in very hot weather. The breakfast was okay, although we only tried it on one morning as we ate out for the rest of our stay. The location is great —just a 15 minute walk from the Colosseum and within easy reach of many of Rome's main attractions. Overall, this is a great, clean and comfortable place to recharge after a long day of sightseeing. Thank you so much!

One improvement would be the addition of a communal drinking water station for guests. Rome has plenty of public drinking fountains, but the nearest one was about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. While that's not far during the day, it's less convenient if you need a drink of water in the middle of the night. We were also unsure whether the water from the bathroom tap was safe to drink. That said, the staff were very helpful and kindly refilled my water bottle from the kitchen, which was greatly appreciated. But a dedicated guest water station would simply make this even more convenient. There is a lift but is tiny, so be wary if you're claustrophobic like me.

It was very clean and the girls in the reception were very polite and friendly. They let us leave our bags before check in and also after check out.

Good location and staff are great. My review is negative aside from the fantastic service offered by the staff.

We were in a room at the front of the building. Although we had a lovely balcony and nice view, Unfortunately it was impossible to get a nights sleep due to the traffic noise. I mean the room was literally vibrating. I did ask for a swap and, to be fair, they were fully booked so couldn’t accommodate this. But I feel like they should let you know if you’re going to be kept awake by traffic noise. Additionally, although the property is very clean, everything is a little outdated. Not good value for money given the lack of sleep.
