Château de Chantore

The Château de Chantore stands quietly inside its private park, paths of various lengths (upto 2.6km) can be followed along a small creek and pond populated with swans, through forest and along fenced paddocks, where four Frisians roam freely. In the morning the call of a muster of ten peacocks wakes one for breakfast. Breakfast is served in the dining room, seated around an oval table, which sits easily 10 and which furthers the conversation with the other guests. Come prepared to be stared at by French aristocracy and royalty from their C17 portrait paintings, and if you appreciate to eat from Antique Delft porcelain and your silver fork for your scrambled eggs being switched to its gold-plated version and you still remember why, then this is the place to while away, write some pages of your book or otherwise drink the organic cider made on the grounds and offered by your charming host on the terrace from which you may contemplate Mont St. Michel, visible in the distance. WIFI works like grease lightning, bathrooms are top notch, rooms are spacious and sunlit, the water potable everywhere, we would like to give Bernard and his Chateau 11 points and six stars, alas the system does not permit. We are aware that writing a glowing recommendation such as this reduces our chance of finding a room for the second half of May '27, when the Rhododendrons will be in full bloom, but then so be it. If you come by car, a secluded sandy beach with a rickety bar is but a few minutes away, bring your kiting and wing foiling equipment, the wind is perfect, the sea choppy but just right, the curved bay protecting the beginner.

There is nothing that could have been better at six stars and 11 points. This place has it all and more in spades, it is 'une vraie chambre d'hôte haut de gamme'.

The owner, Bernard couldn't have been more informative and attentive. The chateau had been beautifully furnished. Our stay was comfortable and relaxing - just a fantastic start to our holiday in France.

Beautiful place and magical gardens. The owners have restored the chateau lovingly and totally in keeping. The owners are passionate about where they live and enthusiastically impart the history. Breakfast was excellent.

It was quite a late check in time.
