The hotel is beautiful, clean and calm. It was a pleasure to spend time in the large garden in the back. What suprised me was the fitness area - it was brand new, large and very well equipped. I did not expect that!
My room was facing the street, it was a bit loud sometimes.

The mini fridge is making weird noise all night long, which makes it a bit hard to fall asleep for light sleepers. The wall is also not very soundproof and can hear my neighbors

It was clean, calm and everyone was super polite.
It would be great to have some hair conditioner in the bathroom and a bathrobe

If you're an independent traveller who likes walking and is not intimidated by using public transport, the location is good. There's a supermarket nearby and lots of bars and a market to browse. This hotel has a lovely garden which I was not able to take advantage of - see my reasons below in the "What I didn't like" section The one saving grace of my stay at this hotel was Mauro, one of the receptionists, who was lovely: courteous, efficient, and he could not have been more helpful. Thanks to his suggestion I went to the Chiesa S. Maurizio which is steps away from S. Maria Maggiore (The Last Supper) and is a little jewel. Stay away from Francesco, another receptionist, whose behaviour I describe in detail below.
When I book a hotel room, I always ask for a quiet, bright room. I received a reply from this hotel telling me that this would be accommodated. When I entered the hotel, the first view is of the gorgeous and extensive garden so I was hopeful that despite being a single woman travelling alone (let's face it, we always get palmed off with the worst rooms) that this time I would not be disappointed. On the contrary. My "quiet" room looked onto the street. To make matters worse the air conditioning was not going to be turned on until the following day, so I had to try and sleep with the window open. Quiet, it wasn't. Nor was it bright. The word to describe it would be sombre. Essentially, they lied. The following morning, as instructed, I asked at reception if I could have a different room. Francesco barely made eye contact with me and said, aggressively and accusingly, "You booked a single room!" I asked why that ensured that my request was not met. "None of our rooms that overlook the gardens are single rooms!" he declared, as if this was a self-evident truth that anyone with half a brain and especially I should have known in advance. "All the single rooms are at the front." How was I supposed to know that? He shrugged. So why had the hotel acceded to my request for a quiet, bright room, I asked. "That is why you are on the third floor" he shot at me, as though I was a terminally stupid six year old. Mauro who was also there (mentioned above) looked embarrassed - subsequently I think he went out of his way to be pleasant to make up for Francesco's rudeness. Unfortunately, I had another encounter with Francesco when I needed to enquire about approximate travel times by taxi to the Brera and to the train station. He looked away while giving me one of his famous shrugs and told me it depended on traffic. Well, OBVIOUSLY. A hostile and recalcitrant rock would've been more polite and helpful.
