Wonderful stay on the Rota Vicentina, very comfortable room nice big bathroom, very clean, very friendly. We had a delicious tajine.

An oasis in the middle of nowhere. Truly peaceful. The room was fantastic. Clean spacious and very comfortable. The onsite restaurant serves a great selection and prepared fresh.

★☆☆☆☆ — Disappointing experience: cat hygiene issue + billing discrepancy We stayed at Barranco da Fonte in April 2026 and pre-booked dinner through Booking.com as requested by the property. The communication beforehand was smooth, and we looked forward to the evening. Unfortunately, the dinner experience fell short in two significant ways. First, the cat. The property's cat approached our table repeatedly while we were eating. Staff made a half-hearted attempt to shoo her away but did not remove her or keep her away from the dining area. The cat then jumped onto my back and into my lap while I was seated. I was visibly distressed. It took another guest — not staff — to intervene and remove the cat. When she did, the cat's claws caught my thighs and caused me pain. For an outdoor dining area, having an unsupervised cat approaching guests' food and laps is a serious hygiene and comfort concern. I chose not to argue at the time — I didn’t want to let a dispute ruin the mood of what had otherwise been a wonderful trip through Portugal. But weeks later, I still haven’t been able to let it go, which is why I’m leaving this review. Future guests deserve to know what to expect. Second, the sea bass pricing. We ordered two grilled sea bass plates. The menu stated fish is priced by weight, which we understood. However, our bill showed 1 × €52 for the fish. When we asked, we were casually told it was "€27 each" — but €27 × 2 = €54, not €52. Neither figure was transparently communicated before or during the meal. For two small fillets with boiled vegetables, this felt like a significant and unexplained markup targeting tourists. We traveled extensively through Portugal and dined at many restaurants. This was the only place where we left feeling uncomfortable and overcharged. I would not recommend the dinner experience here.
