An excellent option for a "books safari" in Hay

Good courtyard downstairs room, not over-spacious but perfectly clean, very well equipped, spotless bathroom, good shower. Friendly staff, very pleasant service at dinner and breakfast. Good range of options on menu.

Car park is small for size of hotel. I was lucky to get last space on both nights I stayed but had to arrive at 3pm and 4,30pm to do so.

Great weekend away

Room was very comfortable with a great shower! Good food and a great breakfast

Only minor niggles, we were in room 18 which opens directly on to the courtyard/ car park. Unless you had the blinds down anyone in the car park could see straight in to the room. Would recommend the entrance door glazing and the bottom half of the sash window be fitted with some opaque privacy film. Also the heated towel rail did not heat up due to a faulty thermostat. Not a problem for us but would be a cold bathroom in the middle of winter!

Central location within the town was ideal, beds were very comfortable, staff very friendly.

Small car park, was lucky and able to park but if not would have had to pay in a pay & display.

Fabulous hotel in a great location

Breakfast was lovely and filling. We had a very nice dinner in the restaurant and a drink at the bar. The staff were all very welcoming. The room was lovely and clean.

Amazing friendly stagg

Amazing location 2 minutes from the centre. Lovely room and immaculately clean. Staff extremely attentive, from the man on reception when we checked in, to the bar staff when ordering food to our room last minute (highly recommend their pizzas and skin-on fries!) Special mention to Ellen who went above and beyond with our requests at breakfast. Many thanks again!

The bed was really comfy and it was quiet.

The was no atmosphere in the dining room at dinner, although there are pubs close by so it wasn't the end of the world. It's easy enough to go out for dinner. Marked down the cleanliness as my room needed a good dust.

having stayed at the hotel 2 years ago i was greeted by the manager who knew me, in fact 4 of the original staff were working and really loved their positions. the whole atmosphere was of quiet efficiency. abreakfast was well organised and food standard very good. Lunch selection good and again good service.

the room i had did not have a comfortable chair but this is being looked into.

Breakfast was really nice. We couldn't try dinner because the chef has a prior booking elsewhere and dinner stopped serving at 7.30pm. Great location in Hay.

The room we had was on the top floor (servant quarters) really warm in the summer so be aware if you are booking during these months. The room/bathroom were a little dated.

Disappointing room in coach House annexe but delicious breakfast and beautiful garden.

The bed was extremely comfortable and the breakfast was fantastic. The locally sourced bacon and sausages were amazing. All staff were very friendly and professional. The location was great and the large garden private and beautiful.

The door from the bedroom to the bathroom didn't close properly, the door to the room kept rattling and there was no mirror in the room. It also needed a lick of paint and the carpet had quite a few stains on it.

Gorgeous period property in the heart of Hay with delightful decor and gardens. Staff were helpful and charming, breakfast choice wonderful and the breakfast served was delicious

Very disappointing, waste of money.

location and friendly staff were the only good things

We've seen this hotel many times and always wanted to stay so we booked, but we never would again. It's very dated, our room was tiny and smelt very stale. Basic tea and coffee facilities, basic low end bathroom facilities, no power sockets by the bed, no USB outlets on any of the sockets. The cooked breakfast was nice, but the continental/cereals/fruit buffet was very poor. All in all, very disappointed. This hotel may have been grand once but those days have long gone. It was very expensive but the experience was that of a low end Travelodge.
