Lovely location out the way so quiet and scenic but not to far from Bury St Edmunds tomorrow shops and amenities
The staff were rude and argumentative, paid for a double room to find it was too singles put together which for the price you’d of expected a double bed, its was very uncomfortable, there were cobwebs in the corner by the extractor fan just felt for the money It would be atleast clean tidy and comfortable

Evening meal was exceptional and great value for money
Scramble eggs were not great full English a lot better. Could have more choice on the menu, such as a continental option, or omelette.

Breakfast & dinner were very good value for money & tasted great. The room was small but very clean. The facilities were good.
Think there could be more attention to detail about the tea tray.(bottled water little packets of biscuits)

The food was good in the evening
We could never find any staff and the fact we couldn’t get a drink or food on new years day was pretty bad

Quiet location
Hotel in disperate need of repair and renovation. Bathroom was freezing cold, the toilet didn’t flush properly, the bathtub leaked. Overall hotel is kept clean, but needs updating.

The quiet ambience.
The dinner menu didn't have much choice of vegetarian, but was ok. The breakfast menu choice however was great.

Quiet, spacious room, friendly helpful staff, nice food in the restaurant. Old fashioned and quirky.
The WiFi didn’t work in my room. I used the comfy bar to work. The staff offered me a conference area to use but I was happy where I was.

Lovely building and setting
The inside was very very dated and needs a major refurb

Friendly receptionist, traditional key, desk, microwave
It was fine for me but the sloey ceiling in my room might cause problems for a tall person!

Great room in an interesting building and fabulous location. Possibly the most comfortable bed I’ve slept in ever.
Surly concierge staff, television in room which didn’t work, fridge which didn’t work, the strangest shower which was very difficult to temperature regulate. Cramped access and egress to room through layout.

How badly it was maintained

Food was out of this world, both Breakfast and Dinner. Delicious, well presented and plentiful.
The whole place looks a bit worn, really needs an injection of capital to update it. Nothing really bad, just old. We were placed on the top floor despite being nearly 78 years old with minor mobility problems. No Lift either.

The food was really very tasty, both dinner and breakfast. Staff was polite and considerate. The best part was there were many vegetarian options available and the property being so ancient still been maintained very well. We loved the log cabins sizing and the outside view 😍
I couldn't pinpoint anything.

No running hot water. Dated decor and carpets. Bathroom wasn’t clean in the corners. Wallpaper has cracks/peeling. Staff wouldn’t move my room when I found I had no running hot water at all

A beautiful country hotel with stunning gardens with superb food at a very reasonable price.
The property is obviously very old and a little tired but has a lot of charm

Quaint accommodation in an old building. Stayed with a group for a wedding nearby and it fitted the bill perfectly. The room was small but had all the necessary facilities for an overnight or two night stay. Breakfast was fresh and good quality. Free parking and nice gardens.
All good for a one night stay.

Big comfy bed, quiet location
Only 1 towel given in double room! Decor and building looking a bit tired but generally a good hotel near to Bury St Edmunds

Review of Room 3 (Small Double) -
Compact size for 1 person. The bed was comfy. It contained all the standard accessories (Tea/Coffee, Shower products) but could do with adding some biscuits! The bathroom was big enough and the shower was excellent. The views were of the garden so lovely birdsong in the morning.
Eating -
A good variety on the menu. I would recommend the Chicken Curry as it was very traditional and obviously home made (served with Rice and Naan). It could do with having Mango Chutney or Yogurt as condiments though. Nice bar too!
The location is ideal as it's about 20 minutes drive to Bury St Edmunds.

I do not remember asking for a quiet room.
Pillows - inadequate. Not enough teabags in room. Generally a little shabby and furniture could do with some good polishing.

Needs to change bathroom tap to mixer tap to save message water wastage

Staff friendly and accommodating, let us into our room early.
Shower was very poor. Building all a bit tatty - for example, the windows in our room were very dirty.
I did not feel encouraged to try their food.

Good location, period property.
Very comfortable bed.
Clean towels
Friendly staff
Shabby and in need of refurbishment.
Not very good breakfast - cooked items in warming trays were not very hot. A few packs of cereal, no fruits or yoghurt and no facility to order from kitchen.

Lovely location and garden was well kept and quiet with a nice ambience. The chalet had adequate space and a comfortable bed.
The furnishings, decor and bathroom were all a bit tired, there was no fridge and whilst a microwave is provided there are no plates or cutlery

I stayed in a log cabin, it was lovely, clean and a lot larger that I thought it may be. The dinner as well as the breakfast was fit for a king. Large, tasty, well cooked and very nicely presented.
I could not get the room door to lock. Only because I had never locked one like this before. Once shown how to do it by a very nice staff member, it was no longer a problem.

It was a lovely lodge, with beautiful gardens.
The bed wasn’t particularly comfortable.
