For us the size of the property was enough, small yet with everything you need. The surroundings were out of this world, the gardens are so well kept. Bed was so comfortable.

The shower, unfortunatley the shower is very weak and goes in all directions. We didn't like the fact that the TV was on the wall, it was too high up.

An enjoyable stay & great place for our family to celebrate Mum’s 70th birthday

The cottage is an ideal hideaway, in beautiful surroundings, under 5 mile drive from local shops & a supermarket, was beautifully decorated, very welcoming & all needs were catered for.

The heating wasn’t working the first night. After contacting Martin first thing Saturday morning he came & fixed it; had made alternative arrangements for us all in case it couldn’t be fixed & contacted me early evening to make sure the heating was still working. He went above & beyond to make sure we had heating.

excellent stay for a large family

We stayed in MacKenzie cottages. The property is clean and very nice. The price is great. The property is perfect for big families, it is in a lovely location and we found our kids loved the grounds. The bathrooms were clean and the home cottage in general is in good condition. The only issue we had was lack of toiletries and lack of kitchen roll etc.

Clean and tidy

Missing anything to make it special or standout - very few and basic amenities provided which you are told to replace if you use. A sign on the shower saying to give it 30 mins between showers due to a water pressure issue - not acceptable for a 3 bedroom cottage with up to 7 people showering daily. Also informed by a sign on arrival that you are not allowed to walk in front of the castle area. This is not great considering this is sold as a cottage within a castle estate - only allowed to walk behind it (we were also told this by a very unfriendly member of staff) even when there was no event on the in the castle.

Only for mice-tolerant people

We really liked the area of the castle; it is huge, with a garden and a pond. The cottages are simple, but they have everything necessary and are clean. I would rate this cottage highly if it weren't for the mice.

We slept poorly all three nights because the mice were running around the house, including the bedroom. The administration did not respond to our complaint until the morning of our departure, and even then, they just said they were sorry to hear that and that they do have a Pest Control team, without even apologizing for our ruined vacation.

Beautiful location

Cottage was very private. Lovely scenery. I had morning coffee and saw 3 deer having morning wander. Great walks and close drive shop. Facilities within cottage all you need. I had elderly mother with me and shower was ideal to support her. Beds were super comfortable.

No issues really, there is a step into kitchen which my mum avoided. Also sky didn't work. However who needs sky in such a lovely location.

Just missing a few bits. Cups/mugs were tiny if you wanted a cuppa - we ended up going and buying a few new mugs. Shower didn’t drain very well. Toaster from the 1990’s. TV was extremely small, not ideal with kids.

Property was really nice and the perfect size for all the family (6 adults and 3 kids).

There were people staying in other cottages who were there for work. They were noisy Saturday night when our smoking and then woke the whole house at 6am on the Monday when loading there van.

We liked the cottage and ambiance of the place. The grounds were amazing and worth exploring. We really enjoyed all the little things in the cottage from the utensils to the board games.

Enjoyed staying at this lovely peaceful retreat.

The residence was tastefully decorated and comfortable. The beds and bedding were comfortable. There was adequate clean linen. The castle grounds were superb to walk in and very interesting.

There was a quite serious hazard, not far from the front door, an open drain with a small metal cover and the lighting in the courtyard is hopelessly inadequate I hope to post a photo to indicate this. When approaching the apartments the lighting didn't always come on however there are no PIR sensors in the courtyard so when leaving the apartment at night to go out, it was extremely dark. This may show why I was concerned about the trip/ falling hazard outside of the front door. Not everyone obeyed the no parking in the courtyard signs, especially the builders working next door! Most of the windows have been covered on the inside so it was strange and disappointing when viewing the property from the outside, as there were lots of windows which may have provided great views. From the inside, there are a lot fewer window openings!! There is only one bathroom in the property and ablutions had to be planned. One toilet for six or seven is just not enough. I got the feeling from the instructions that whilst we were creating revenue, we weren't as welcome as we thought. Being told not to drive or walk past the front of the house, although we could drive behind it, smacked of a them and us attitude. The kitchen could have been better stocked with cooking pans and utensils. If you are going to advertise a self catering apartment then there needs to be adequate utensils. There were a couple of other glitches however these were sorted quickly and although I have listed some problems, it didn't spoil our time there. We had a great time and I would go again, I just wouldn't say that the facilities were adequate for more than 4 people. I think that some basic greeting items like a pint of milk and a pound box of tea bags would be great. Luckily, we took our own but other booking .com properties we have stayed at, have provided fruit and tea/ coffee items. I understand that might put the cost up but only marginally and it would be appreciated.

The quality of the facilities were poor. Bathroom tab was moving around, so not able to use it, and also kitchen tab is the same. On the first night heating was not working, and got fiexd for second night
