Hotel Liberte Asahikawa

Comfortable room with interesting decor.

Lighting controls were unnecessarily complicated, but nothing too bad, perhaps would be better suited for someone who wants more customization options to set the mood. Faint smell of cigarettes because you can smoke in the room (or I think so, because there was an ashtray inside the room), but nothing too bad because my mother did not notice anything.

The breakfast was totally delicious. You couldn't have wanted for better. It was enough Japanese for Japanese travellers and enough also to satisfy foreign guests.

The receptionist on the night of check in was rude. I have been coming to Japan for fifty years and this was the first time ever I had been treated with a loud strong voice. I was just disappointed. The room itself was perfect, clean and comfortable. But there was one light that wouldn't turnoff and even though I went down to ask how to turn it off, there was no switch I could find to do so. Therefore a light was on all night. The tiles on the steps coming up the entry to the hotel are breaking away, which could be a concern for some.

Big room with a nice sized Japanese shower and tub. Great location and very clean.

Breakfast is good with a number of choices (including curry rice). Location is walking distance from a number of good ramen restaurants. Free parking is also available.

The hotel is rather old and the layout of our room is quite unusual (an irregular hexagon shaped room). Staff at the reception could not understand any English so communication was rather difficult.
