An Authentic Rovinj Gem with a Perfect Host!

We had a fantastic stay at Casa Kalahari History. The location was perfect, putting us right in the heart of Rovinj with easy access to everything. The atmosphere was enhanced by the history, especially knowing our host, Damir, is a fifth-generation shoemaker. We loved the convenience of having our go-to spot right across the street, a great pub! Highly recommend for anyone looking for an authentic and well-situated stay.

There were a lot of steps, however Damir helped with the bags. There was some late night noise from patrons of the pub the first night. It stopped at 11pm.

Cozy well equipped apartment in heart of old town with lovely hosts.

Perfect central location in heart of historic old town, plenty restaurants within minutes walk. Comfortable and adequately equipped. Excellent hairdryer, towels, kitchenette. Nice touch of complimentary local red wine and sweeties. Warm welcome from host … although non English speaking, he used a paper map of town and daughter on speaker phone to welcome us and orientate us about Rovinj and give us some recommendations for restaurants and where to go out running. Try dining at La Mula, Grongo et Alice (next door to apt) and La Puntulina for sunset views.

Steep stairs to get to top floor apartment but host kindly carried my suitcase up for me. We knew this in advance from the info about apartment so were expecting it and it didn’t affect us, but if you have poor mobility maybe look for an alternative. Hot water supply good but limited … advise only have quick shower if 2 of you using shower in quick succession. Poor sound proofing… could hear conversations from downstairs apartment really clearly. Suggest ear plugs for sleeping.

Fabulous Old Town location with wonderful hosts!

Great space in the heart of everything! The host is fantastic. Even better than expected! Included breakfast was a delicious and filling buffet around the corner at a lovely café.

Old Town location is fabulous, but parking is either a hike or expensive. The host gave us helpful recommendations.

I would definitely recommend staying at Casa Kaligari and the town of Rovinj.

Our studio apartment was clean, bright, centrally located and Sarah and her father couldn’t have been more welcoming.

A fantastic little studio flat, with phenomenal hosts in an ideal location in Rovinj. A must stay.

The property was a lovely little studio flat with all the amenities you could need. The host was incredibly helpful and gave us a tonne of info on Rovinj and the surrounding area. We were greeted by the host and his daughter who phoned us to translate for him; they were both fantastic! They provided us with a carafe of wine and the entire experience here was so lovely. I’ll be coming back for sure.

The only thing that was slightly problematic was the WiFi, the first couple nights it was almost unusable but when we did eventually get around to telling the host, they fixed it immediately and were incredibly proactive. We weren’t too fussed though as it was nice to be offline for a couple days and enjoy the city in peace.

In the heart of the Old Town, this charming place and host was perfect and had everything we needed!

Great location if you want to be in the old town. Very well renovated suite with everything wee needed. The host was very friendly and helpful. Though he spoke little English, he got his daughter on the phone to translate our conversation and together they were very informative about Rovinj and very helpful answering questions.

We were on the top (4th) floor and it was very hot going up the steep and narrow stairs each time, but there was no way to avoid that if you wanted the best room. It was a bit tricky to find, but his clue that it was above a shoe store was very helpful

Great host, who despite the language barrier gave us great tips for our visit and very kindly gave us a lift to our car on the last day when it was raining. Restaurant recommendations were great! A carafe of local wine to sample was a really lovely touch and delicious. In general it had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

Charming, characterful, comfortable apartment in the old town

This is the most lovely apartment in the old town of Rovinj. We had excellent communication with the host by email, and they met us at the apartment and gave us lots of helpful information about the town and surrounding area. The apartment is beautifully renovated to retain the character of the historic building, and it is comfortable, clean and has a useful kitchenette. The bed was the most comfortable of our whole trip. I wish we could have stayed for longer.

The apartment was spotless, cozy, and had everything we needed. The location was perfect — just a short walk to all the main sights. Our host was incredibly kind and helpful, making us feel very welcome. We would definitely book this place again!

Great location but various problems

the location was excellent and the host lovely

Do not underestimate how steep and uneven the stairs are, one apartment is on 2nd floor and one on 3rd, anyone older or with mobility difficulties will struggle. Also in the 3rd floor apartment there was a really bad smell from the drains, the host kept trying to fix it by putting bleach down but it was because the water trap kept getting sucked out meaning that smells from the sewers made it to the room. In the end we resorted to blocking the plug holes and overflow holes on sink and shower with wet tissue which helped. Also there are no smoke alarms or fire escapes if you are happy to take that risk. It is a shame because the host was genuinely trying to do his best and was so helpful and apart from drain smell and the stairs would be a lovely apartment but I would have moved accommodation if I could have done so and would not book it again. My friend's apartment on the second floor did not have the same problems with drains.

The hosts were extremely friendly and helpful! Damir gave us a briefing about the history of the old-town and the house itself. There is a generations-old shoe-maker business still operating at the bottom floor, and the house is located in the middle of old-town Rovinj. We had bad weather on a few days of our stay, and the central location of the hosue really helped us make the most of our time. The place is extremely authentic with a genuine Istrian old-town feel, and our room had a beautiful view of the neighbouring rooftops. Even though the house itself is probably centuries old, the rooms are renovated, modern and clean. Everything else, amenities etc. was also perfectly fine.

As with any old-town house in such a location, you may have to climb some narrow steps to your room (i.e., like a lot of places in Amsterdam have).

Lovely, would stay again!

Very central and although quite small it had everything you need. The aircon was great, beds were comfortable, good shower, the owners were lovely and very helpful. They left some treats for me as it was my birthday which was a nice touch

Nice studio in a great location, good also for a longer stay

Very well equipped studio, with all things that you may need during your stay. Very clean and smelling nicely. The owner was really nice, gave us a map and explained what was worth visiting. Very good location, yet peaceful at night.

The check-in was not ideal. Until the moment of our arrival there was no contact from the owner. The phone provided on Booking.com turned out to be the one of his daughter and she did not pick up. The lady at the neighbouring shop saved us as she showed us the right number indicated at the window of his shop.

Great central location and a real ‘old town’ Rovinj experience.

Great little studio unit in the heart of the old town. Excellent check-in process including being met at the ferry as it was dark when I arrived.

The noise - just footsteps in apartment above so overall a fairly minor issue.

misleading - parking

The accommodation is right in the historical center

Is it correct to say that the ad on Booking is misleading? I opted for accommodation primarily because it said it had free parking. I announced in advance that I would arrive in Rovinj in the evening and I was given the address of the parking lot. When I got there - I had an unpleasant surprise - the accommodation was one with payment, and I should have made the payment from my own pocket. Then I was sent to a free parking lot far in front of a restaurant where the waiters said that the security of the parking lot is my own responsibility. Taking into account the situation and because I have a small boy - a lot of heavy luggage and the distance..., at the moment I was very nervous and wanted to file a complaint. Then I calmed down.

Great location and great value for money

The apartment is in the old town and in the very centre of Rovinj, close to shops, bars, restaurants. The apartment was very clean, equipped with everything you need for short or long stay (equipped kitchen, bathroom with towels), bed was comfortable, ideal apartment for couples. The host was always available and very friendly. Overall, great value for money.

The only thing was poor sound-proof isolation, so sometimes you can hear guests from upper floor.

Incredibly friendly. I was given a history of the area and advice on where to go and what to see. Bed was super comfortable and it was in the centre of the old town. There were even sweets, water and a beer in the apartment!
