Koolhouse Porto

The room is really classy looking and elegant with the stripped floorboards and high ceiling long windows. It was kind of fun getting in with the many instructions, codes and keys. The garden was nice but a bit noisy from the cars on the main road.

It would have been good if the guy who was still cleaning when we arrived had pointed out the shutters, we slept with the blinds down but we hadn't noticed the shutters to block the light out. I didn't matter too much but we were lucky it wasn't a bright day. The area was probably one of the less pretty parts of Porto and although well connected there it wasn't somewhere you'd want to hang out.

Location is excellent, and the backyard, and private parking place ❣️

We had a mixed experience at this hotel. The main issue was the noise. Our windows faced one of the busiest streets in the city, which we could have tolerated — however, there was a manhole cover right below the window that produced FOUR extremely loud banging sounds every time a car drove over it, day and night. It was just a few meters from our window and made it very difficult to rest. Another concern was privacy. While we were out during the day, someone from the staff entered our room. Personal belongings were moved, items were rearranged, and even the bathroom door — which we had intentionally kept closed — was opened, leaving an unpleasant smell in the room. The only useful thing done during this visit was taking out the trash, but even the bin was moved to a place that was inconvenient for us. We did not appreciate this level of interference with our personal space.

I needed a two single beds room and Koolhouse had not received this request. I contacted them and my room was upgraded to a two bedroom apartment.

The bed was quite comfortable. There was a nice garden area. The windows were double glazed so prevented some of the noise from the street.

The host wasn't there when I arrived or left, which felt impersonal. It's nice to have someone to ask about restaurant recommendations, transport and if there are any problems. I had been given a pin code for the gate and door which i couldn't work out so had to phone him. I'd asked for a quiet room but it was facing the main road so not very quiet. The toilet didn't flush so I had to fix it. The shower wasn't easy to work out which was hot or cold and there was an old rug on the floor which didn't seem very clean.
