Galkanda Walawwa Boutique Villa

The place is gorgeous - a beautiful old villa, well kept by three generations. The views are gorgeous, especially from the pool, it feels like you’re swimming into the wilderness. The indoor is just as beautiful and Suresh and his staff are amazing. Food probably the best we’ve had in Sri Lanka. Both the breakfast and dinner are excellent.

Hot shower a bit touch and go, there’s enough for two short showers. The “cold water” is not really cold though so it’s fine. Single beds don’t have mosquito nets over them.

Owner very knowledgeable. Set in nature. Attentive friendly staff. Historic beautiful house. Refreshing swimming pool. Amazing dinners and breakfast.

Villa is like stepping back in to old Ceylon. Fabulous view. Staff at hand to prepare meals which are served at the table with all its finery. Suresh and his crew can’t do enough to make your stay peaceful and comfortable. We came to watch Sri Lanka vs Australia. We had a lovely rest beforehand. Suresh organised a Tuk to take us to the match and bring us back after. All meals are cooked fresh. We all agreed that we would stay here again for any big Sri Lankan matches played in Kandy. It’s away from the bustle Kandy has and only 6km from stadium.

We got a little lost finding the place. So use google maps and insert the address manually. Or contact Suresh beforehand to share location. Wifi drops in some parts of the villa. Great if you don’t want to be contacted. Not so great if you don’t have a local sim with data and have stuff to do.

This private home turned boutique hotel is not like anything else I've experienced. I did not expect to have the whole house to ourselves, which was a great treat. Although this is a hotel, the usual amenities are not there. Expect rustic charm and antique furniture. This family-owned property sits on top a steep hill with spectacular views from the pool deck. The hosts are delights and very accommodating. The food is excellent and the gardens are well-maintained.

Overall, nothing to complain about. The house is not particularly close to Kandy (you'll need a car or taxi) so factor that in if you're looking to access any nightlife or local restaurants. But being away from everything is what I go for!
