Tanaka-ya

Very kind host, great location (even though Gion is like a zoo these days), comfy futon, well-working A/C, little snacks and treats from the lovely host.

This room got so bright in the morning, and the sliding doors didn't do much to shade the room. The room would also get pretty warm because of this. Would have loved the option for dark curtains, especially considering how early sunrise is in Japan. Noise does travel easily here from the neighbors or from outside, but luckily it was relatively quiet overall.

Super petite guesthaouse avec une adorable propriétaire soucieuse de vous aider tout en étant par la suite très discrète. La localisation est plus que parfaite! On est dans le quartier Gion tout en étant au calme dans une petite ruelle. Le logement est authentique, très propre et plein de charmes. Les matelas des futons étaient hyper confortables et larges. On a craignait d'entendre les voisins car les cloisons étaient minces, et bien pas du tout! C'était super calme. La salle de bain et les toilettes sont communes mais ça ne pose aucun problème, c'était parfait. La chambre est grande et bien aménagée. Climatisation comprise. Si on revient à Kyoto c'est ici que nous dormirons à nouveau!

The accommodation at Tanaka-ya and the environment they provided another layer to the experience of being in Kyoto. It felt quite traditional, the host was lovely and very attentive on arrival. I really enjoyed my stay here.

I don't really have a any negative comments.

The host was very hospitable and even gave us some freebies like hot croissants for breakfast! The location was great, in a beautiful neighbourhood.

The building was old and not well insulated so it was pretty cold in March. We could hear a lot of noise from the street and from other guests. Creaky floorboards meant it was hard to sleep sometimes if other people were moving around.
