Hôtel Mondial

Location, foyer and bathroom both in room and in reception. Fridge and kettle. Staff member answering questions over Booking.com was excellent.

Room was much smaller than photos suggested. Staff on front desk didn’t make an effort to make you feel at home at all. No negotiation on early check in at all.

The staff is very friendly, upgraded me at no extra cost, the bed is comfortable, the breakfast is excellent, and the location is great.

Everything was good.

The room I stayed in was very comfortable, especially the bed. I liked that I could open the window to get fresh air, there was a Nespresso coffee machine and a fridge that I could store some food. The shower had great water pressure, and always hot water. I chose the hotel due to proximity to events I was going to with close Metro locations or within walking distance, and a good choice of restaurants and shopping nearby.

Mostly the hotel was very good. Breakfast was good, the room was small but reasonably comfortable.

There seemed to be a cold draught blowing across the bed through the night, from some air con I couldn't really work out too well. But the main reason I'm not giving this a higher rating is simply this. When we got to our room we saw one or two men outside our bedroom window. This was on the 5th floor. They were working on some other room. It was a bit disconcerting to say the least. When I went to speak to someone about it, they were not at all apologetic about it. The manager (I think he was the manager) said in a very off-hand way something like "Well I can't ask them not to work can I?" Fairly rude. He only had to say "I'm really sorry about this", or something similar. It takes nothing to be polite and friendly. I found him a bit rude. When I asked whether the fact that there was works going on was on the website he said Yes. But I don't remember seeing it. He may be right, I may be wrong. But a little apology and understanding for a couple who have booked a holiday is not too much to ask. (When I asked whether there would be someone there on Saturday as well he said No. But there was...) Everything else was very good. The staff in the breakfast room were lovely.
