About this house rental

This Western Desert Retreat sits on top of the hill with 360 views! It is on 2 1/2 acres of peaceful quiet desert. Decorated with western touches. Each bedroom has a queen bed and is at separate ends of the home making it comfortable for two couples or a family of 4. The kitchen is fully stocked with all full size appliances, cookware, utensils and every thing you need to cook a Holiday dinner. You just supply the ingredients.
The home has forced heat and air to make you comfortable anytime of the year. There is even a wood stove for the cozy winter nights.
The large front porch is wonderful to sit or swing while you watch the wildlife come for a drink. Feed the quail, scrub jay or orioles. Watch for the Bobcats and Coyote at night. Listen to the coyotes sing while you watch the star filled night sky.

Walk out your back door and enjoy a hike, rock climb or just play a game of horseshoes, while you enjoy the sunshine.
Experience the desert heat in summer( 15 to 20 degrees cooler than Palm Springs) or the snow topped Joshua Trees in winter.

This home is just 15 minutes from the entrance to Joshua Tree National Monument .
Palm Springs Tram is only 30 miles away.
Cabazon Outlet Stores and Casino 45 minutes.

This house had just what I look for in a desert retreat: cozy, somewhere between “vintage” and “rustic”, and well equipped with all the basic necessities. Bonus points for the quiet location and a great hiking opportunity that’s literally accessible from the back yard. Cheryl even provided a big blanket especially for our dogs, and they felt right at home. Would love to stay again if we get a chance.

The quiet natural setting is soul-quenching. Just what was needed. The place was as clean as I keep my own home...and I'm fussy...ask anyone!Cheryl was right there when we had any questions. She was always polite and patient.The gamble quails, the tortoise, the hummingbirds and jays, even the bobcat stopped by for a brief moment. What more can anyone ask for?

The colors were amazing! And, the hosts were very efficient with their instructions. My husband had a pack of coyotes roll up on him during an evening stroll, but we were well prepared given the instructions. This was a spontaneous road trip, but would recommend/visit again.

Lovely site, lovely home on a bluff. Just right for family & friends. Very well preserved ranch house with clean, well kept grounds. Lots of charming antiques. Close enough to town but far enough for quiet, nature walks & stargazing. Saw jackrabbits, coyotes, & quail every day. Great wifi and big screen tv but you'll want to be up to see the sunrise here

Looking for a simple, relaxing desert getaway, hoping for nice views and a quiet place to spend the nights, we were blown away by this location! One of the first things I saw on the property was the gorgeous Joshua tree right in front, which was blossoming with white flowers. Beautiful. Next, as I walked around to the back, I was amazed that the "back yard" was desert as far as the eye could see. Joshua trees, brush, sand, rocks, and the region's signature stony hills in the background. About 50 ft in front of me, an enormous jackrabbit spotted me before I spotted it, and it prudently sprinted away. Five minutes later, admiring the view, we saw a gorgeous and pretty sizeable barn owl swoop over the house! Or favorite time was sunrise, of which the property has a breathtaking view. In the house, everything was great: well stocked kitchen, comfy bed, pleasant aesthetic, basically everything where it should be and functioning well. Very quiet neighborhood, extremely low light pollution, wonderful place for stepping outside and seeing an incredible night sky.

Quiet serene cabin perched on the top of the hill. Abundance of wildlife and gorgeous rock formations at your doorstep. Sipping morning tea on the front porch and watching the Jack rabbits hopping around and having a short visit by a coyote was spectacular. Such a little desert gem and only a short 20 minute drive from Joshua Park. Excellent host and cleanliness. Next time going south this will be my stop once more.

Of all the places we’ve stayed this ranks among the very best. Roomy house, nice view, solitude, and proximity to Joshua Tree National Park, Pioneertown Mountains Preserve, Sand to Snow National Monument, Giant Rock, and of course, Coachella Valley and Palm Springs. Lots of outdoor space for our bulldog, interesting wildlife, just a great place complete with Joshua Trees on the premises.

Stayed here two weeks ago, and it was the perfect home for our family of four. Had all the creature comforts we needed with two little ones: from a fully stocked kitchen, heater (it was extremely chilly at night), games, and comfy beds. My two little sons 5 and 7 loved watching the birds in the morning and exploring the amazing natural preserve right in the backyard! Cheryl was timely with all her responses and a delight. Will definitely stay at again!

We rented this house because it slept 4 and it was just up out of the Yucca Valley. We really appreciated the house, and the very quiet surrounding area that was lovely. The house was perfect for us!!

We were very happy with our stay here. House was as described and was very conveniently located for our visit to Joshua Tree National Park. Two comments though for visitors-to-be. One is that many of the residential roads in the area are dirt, including about the last 3 minutes of the drive to this one. While the road was in generally good shape, it is definitely bumpy in places. Our second comment is that the living area and bedrooms are rather dimly lit with only lamps to provide light; my wife likes to knit, and this would have been an issue if she hadn't brought a battery-powered headlamp with her.

We had such a wonderful stay at Cheryl's beautiful home that is situated right on the edge of a nature preserve. The home is so charming with lots of lovely touches and Cheryl was such a brilliant, communicative host. Everything went seamlessly. We would definitely stay again!

Staying here is like having your own National Park out the back door. After hiking Joshua Tree we really enjoyed hiking these trails all by ourselves. So peaceful and beautiful! The house had everything we needed and then some. It was so comfortable and we enjoyed the wildlife. Perfect relaxing end to our trip to Palm Springs and Yucca Valley. My wife and I wanted a nice quiet basecamp for visiting JTNP. Cheryl’s place was perfect. It’s almost to the end of a dirt road in an uber quiet neighborhood overlooking the valley. Altho the weather didn’t cooperate, we did get one beautiful sunrise over our 5 night stay. The drives to any of the north park entrances were easy peasy. The beds were comfy, the place and grounds were clean and tidy, and the kitchen was adequately stocked with cookware and stuff. Decent grocery stores in the valley and some good restaurants….Pies for the People had good pizza but stay away from Las Palmas. I’ve had better Mexican food 30 minutes south of the Canadian border. I’d stay there again 👍

What an amazing find close to Joshua Tree. Cheryl's place was amazingly well kept and clean. Has a very homely vibe. We felt very comfortable. Also the place is close enough to Joshua Tree yet very quiet and isolated. Lovely walk from the back to some wilderness and nice rock formations. Loved the stay there and will definitely be back.

Hiiltop Home is a clean, quaint home with two spacious bedrooms and an open living/dining area. The home offers beautiful vistas, especially at sunrise and sunset. Cheryl has the home supplied with many items( toilet paper, dish soap, laundry soap, etc… ) which is a great help when traveling from long distances. We didn’t give ourselves enough time (stayed just 2 nights) to simply relax and enjoy the home and its surroundings. Thank you, Cheryl!

Do believe every positive review about this property, because it is all true, and then some. As I told Cheryl this morning on our way out, I typically leave rentals cleaner and tidier than I find them, but it was practically impossible in this case. The home is an absolute delight and Cheryl has thought of everything. There is something really special about this property and I am glad to see that renters have treated it kindly, since there are antique items big and small all over the house that couldn't possibly be replaced. It is such a delight to have this timeless home available to those who appreciate what it represents. The beds were very comfortable, which we find is quite rare in vacation rentals. We spent a weekend in the area for stargazing (specifically, the Perseid meteor shower); we saw quite a few meteors the first night right from the backyard. The second night-- contrary to the suggestion of the park ranger, who told us that we surely had the same dark skies where the house was located as they did inside the park--we drove into the park. What a mistake that was! We spent hours stuck in traffic and ended up seeing the exact same stellar spectacle we had experienced from the comfort of the home's backyard. Moral of the story: if you are in the area for stargazing in addition to everything else JTNP has to offer, you need not go anywhere past the backyard of this home to experience the best of the area's dark skies.
