A great location for a week's stay, right in the heart of Whitby. The property is well maintained and comfortable and there was a very nice welcome pack of local goodies to help you settle in.

Despite a generally satisfactory holiday it got off to a poor start through a lack of vital information in the welcome book. This book was hidden in a bookcase rather than placed on the coffee table where it could be easily found. However, the information in the book was largely about places to see and eat and little about how to operate the cottage. There were several issues that left me having to work things out rather than having the information clearly presented. The worst aspect was for the heating. There was no information in the book about where to find the thermostat, which is normally easily found on the ground floor. Having found nothing to help with this I spent the first night and morning in very cold conditions requiring an overcoat to be worn indoors. I had to spend time attempting to contact the letting agent on the first day and in the morning to find that the thermostat was hidden away on the first floor stairwell, not in the immediate sight of anyone walking up the stairs? Why was its location not mentioned in the information pack when this was unique to this property and not something that the average guest could be expected to know or easily find. Not only did I have a very cold introduction to the property but had to waste vital hours of my holiday trying to sort this out. This didn't get things off to the best start and rather tarnished what could have been a very comfortable holiday.
