Che Holbox Hostel & Bar Adults Only

Had an amazing experience during my stay. There’s always something going on and a great place to know other travellers. Lots of mostly free and diverse activities organised by staff and volunteers- shoutout to Manu Viki and Zoe! The pool and bar restaurant (with affordable prices) area is great and loved spending full days there.

They charge 4% fee on credit card transactions even though it’s not allowed in Mexico as far as I know. Rooms can be cleaner but understandable as it’s an island and there’s lots of sand anywhere. Shower pressure was bad and no hot water (weather is really hot so not a big problem). Price is increased when the hostel gets full so eventually couldn’t extend and had to move to another place.

The staff were so friendly and caring. The property was so vibey and lovely. I had a cute comfortable room to myself as a solo traveler and my own bathroom. It was clean and nice.

The biggest issue is not the properties fault but the walk to the beach through the streets turned lakes when it rained so it was hard not to get muck all over your feet. But I would wash my feet when I got back to the hostel and it was fine.

I like how they try to make it fun there. Organize activities to get people connected. And i like their loyalty program. The people working there are nice. Most of them also join later to go out in town after the bar closes. And they will ask you to join if you’re still hanging around the bar by that time. Which i thought was nice. Especially when traveling solo. The pool was also chill, some more places to lay down would be nice though!

That when i was sick and stuck with high fever in my dorm, for 3 days, nobody seemed to notice or care to ask how i was doing, if i maybe needed help. If it wasn’t for an attentive other traveler (who was not even in my dorm but noticed i was not outside it anymore) I wouldn’t have had anything to eat or drink those days. The supermarket is 10 min walk, which is too far if your in high fever and can bearly walk 😅. The last night though the night shift guy working there noticed and gave me a lime to make tea, which was nice. The shared bathroom, toilets could have been cleaned a bit more. In the evening the bins were mostly overflowing with paper. And often at m one of the 3 toilets was clogged and unusable until next cleaning session. Cleaning it at least one time a day more would be nicer! Or at least emptying the bins more oftem! The street where the hostel looks a bit shabby and is a bit deserted making it feel a bit unsafe to walk alone at night. But it does seem that the island is actually pretty safe. Just saying it’s not the most fun part of town to walk (alone). Looks like a lot complaining, but i would stay again if im in Holbox. I think its the most fun hostel on the island for solo travelers!

Che hostel was close to restaurants and the ferry.

It was extremely loud in the evenings because everyday was a party at the hostel where also others or locals arrived. The staff wasn‘t that friendly, weren‘t really helpful when we had questions.
