I'll admit when we pulled up I was wondering if we were in the right place. But once you stepped inside you were in a magical wonderland of luxury. I can't rave enough about the food. We had breakfast and dinner and both were Michelin-star quality. The staff were amazing, helpful and friendly. We had the room with the private onsen but we were hard pressed to have time to enjoy it as we were too busy enjoying the other two wonderful onsen that are on the property (we eventually enjoyed it on our last morning). The tea and free drinks were a bonus. The location was great; we took a taxi to the Hells of Beppu but were able to walk all the way back (downhill). I can't recommend this ryokan enough.
