Rue Neuve - Old Town Apartment

We loved finally being able to stay in the Old Town of Nice, an area I've explored many times over the years. We were met by the charming Dorine who gave us the keys and practical advice on using the apartment. We had chosen to walk from the train station to Rue Neuve in sweltering heat and were called up the stairs to meet Dorine. By the time we and our luggage arrived, we were melting with heat/perspiration and Dorine was, with typically French style, calm and elegant. The place itself is beautiful and super clean with plenty of mod cons and a view onto the old street below. Luckily this included a large fan! Lots of cafes and a supermarket nearby, so all good.

We had no issues.

We liked the clear and friendly communication before arriving with the host (David) and we were very impressed with the helpful and warm welcome from Dorine, who looks after the property and hands over the keys. The apartment location is fantastic being in the old town of Nice. Plenty of shops, places to eat, drink and socialise. Easy access to public transport was great. The apartment size was good and it was nice to have a lounge area, separate from the sleeping area. It was a very nice bathroom with a good shower Another plus was a washing machine, that allowed us to pack lighter than we would usually!

The description of the apartment is that it is 'air conditioned'. The only item we had was a floor standing fan, that re-distributed the hot air in the room you located it in. I would recommend looking in to an air-con unit for the bedroom, as a good nights sleep is invaluable when it is hot and you've been doing lots of walking in the day! Whilst overall the apartment was clean and tidy, the only exception was the floor tiles. We only noticed this after walking around bare footed and then having 'black' feet. The fridge cooled items after a long period of time, but could really do with being colder. Also the ice compartment was impossible to access (frozen closed) From the balcony image used on Booking.com, we were really looking forward to enjoying meals and drinks on the balcony. But the area below was very much a wasteland and it was very overlooked by neighbours, this was quite disappointing. We were capable of making the several flights of steep stairs to the apartment with our luggage, but can understand that as the building is ancient, there is no way round this, so we suggest travellers bear this in mind. Please also consider better lighting in the hallway, especially near the front door and first set of stairs, as by day it is difficult to see them, but at night, very difficult.

Clean, tidy, be considered in the hearth of the Nice, nearby everywhere and everything you need. Next street where the lide is and take you directly to the sea. Easy access to the apartment.

Was a bit hot weather, during the day if you stay in, needs strong cooler, but nights are ok.

Excellent location, literally right there are at least 2 grocery stores. The apartment is in a historic building, located in the epicenter of pubs and social life, but on the other hand in a quiet side street. A wide range of things for visiting the beach is provided. There is an iron, ironing board, drying rack for laundry. A refrigerator with a freezer. Public transport is very close. Very nice nd responsive staff.

I would recommend light curtains for the windows, new wine glasses, and some capsules for the washing machine.
