Gokayama Onsen Akaokan

Its an amazing experience. As if we were going back in time

It’s not that we didn’t like - because we knew it was part of the overall experience. But sleeping was not easy on the floor .

Definitely book the traditional Japanese dinner. A very unique experience. Onsen is nice Staff are lovely.

Accommodation is somewhat dated.

Tout est dans son jus et c’est ce qui fait son charme. Tout est traditionnel et c’est ce qu’on attendait y-compris les petits déjeuners et dîners variés, copieux et excellents. L’arrêt de bus juste devant l’hôtel et la dame a l’accueil est adorable

Rien mais si vous cherchez la modernité de ce que l’on peut trouver dans les grandes villes, passez votre chemin.

Needs an update. Couldn’t tell the original color of the carpet. Maybe because it’s virtually the only game in town, right in the heart of the Gokayama area. Also I got treated weirdly with my dinner when I arrived. No idea why. I showed up on time, was the first guest to register that day, but they decided not to give me dinner though I’d paid for meals in advance. I was sent to a nearby restaurant and told I’d pay for it myself. This was all done in Japanese so I didn’t really understand what was going on. On Google maps it just says Chinese in English, its Japanese name is Kitanoya Shokudo. It somehow gets 3.8 stars, but it was the worst restaurant I have seen in Japan. Unacceptable. It reeked of smoke and had dead bugs lying around everywhere. I got gyoza and got out asap. Topped off with snacks that I brought along. It only happened the once, but it shouldn’t have happened at all.
