We wanted to experience a traditional Japanese hotel. The rooms in this ryokan felt authentic with their tatami floors and very comfortable futons. We enjoyed an excellent dinner topped with Hida beef. The onsen facilities were very clean and modern. The staff were very helpful and spoke good English. We were offered a free pick up from the train station the first day and also dropped off at the station for just 1000 yens on the following days.
The ryokan is located in the outskirts of Takayama. It can be a 30-40 minute walk from the city centre. However, it is connected by buses, and taxi rides are inexpensive.

Free parking...
This is an old tired Ryokan. Everything is charged extra. We booked for the premium Hida beef filet dinner (¥8,800) and it was very disappointing. Unfortunately seems like there was a downgrade substitution as it was tough and chewy not what we were expecting. Half board ended up costing more than the room. The owner seemed like he was aware and avoided us while interacting with other guests.
