Staying at Paraiso Villas was a real treat. We had a 2-bedroom villa with balcony that was one of the nicest places we stayed during our Portugal vacation. It is located a good 15 minutes or so out of central Guimaraes, so you definitely need a car. There are a few eating places in the general area, but again, best to have a car. There is plenty of free parking on site, so no worries there. Our villa was stunning! It was large, airy, clean, and very comfortable. Best of all it had a nice balcony out front with good views. The kitchen seemed fairly complete, though we didn’t actually use it. The bathroom was fabulous, great shower, and plenty of room. One of the best aspects of this hotel was the very well-equipped gym, one of the best we’ve seen in Portugal. It is complete with free weights (including a Smith rack), full set of dumbbells, a large variety of high quality Matrix brand weight machines, and a great selection of high quality cardio machines – all located in a nice facility with lots of windows. We didn’t use any other parts of the spa or wellness center. The breakfast buffet was good, but just a little bit on the small side. Overall we had a great stay and would highly recommend it to other travelers.
The only criticisms I can offer are that, 1. They really need to work on the landscaping – in particular, weed control. Weeds were popping up all over, especially in the parking lot, giving it a rather neglected look, and 2. The internet was slow and unreliable – we expected better.
