Location was perfect and the building was different. In a good way

Superb converted farm complex on the north side of the Beacons, a few miles from Hay on Wye. Lots of parking, rooms clean and comfortable, breakfast excellent, staff friendly and helpful. Super base for the Eastern Beacons.

The complex has a comfortable bar which is not running at the moment. I suspect it may not be economic to staff the bar given recent changes to hospitality taxes/costs but if so that is a shame, as it would be a great space to have a few drinks after a day on the hills.

Only fault was water hammer/noisey plumbing in FF room only

Breakfast was very pleasant and cooked to order.

We had to wait around for half an hour before any staff appeared to check us in. (There was no information displayed about what to do upon arrival if there were no staff on site and no apology / explanation when they finally arrived). The room was quite small, with little space to put suitcase / clothes. Furnishings and fittings were quite tired. Our room was located in the main building above the lodge's function area. When we returned to the lodge after dinner, the only bar area was being used by the private party guests, so we felt awkward about using the bar. We weren't forewarned about there being a party on the evening of our stay. Sound-proofing was nonexistent, so we weren't able to get to sleep until all of the party guests had left, long after midnight.
