Portree Youth Hostel

Location! Really close to the centre of Portree and bus stops. Close to the harbour, the Lump and waterfall. Skye is huge! Parking is across the road. Watch for the parking inspector. There every day, after 8am. Before 8 on Sunday. Staff were friendly and helpful. Laundry is a huge machine! Kitchen was well equipped and organised. Room 12- double with ensuite. Near the kitchen there’s an extra loo and shower. Although expensive, it isn’t if you look at other places on Skye. The screenshot shows prices for a double with ensuite 2027! This place is popular and is booked well in advance. The lounge! Super views and a great place to hang out. Unlike other hostels, it’s not closed during the day. If the weather is bad, you can sit safe and dry and watch.

Laundry is £9 for a wash dry no matter how big or small the load. Stairs! But they’re cute! Signs needed to tell everyone the opening and closing time of the reception and the laundry room. Walls were paper thin but that’s true in many hotels too. A problem if you’re asleep and neighbours are awake at 3am and unzipping luggage and many people get up early to hike. No need for an alarm, but if you do set one…turn it off. Your neighbouring rooms can hear everything 😉 Large groups need to be mindful when using the kitchen as space is tight. We were assigned Room 14 for our first of 7 nights. It is tiny and only suitable for guests staying one or two nights. Room 15 faces the road. Need to have signs in several languages reminding people to be respectful and quiet. Like everywhere in the UK bathrooms are small and showers are a challenge but ask for help. Hot water warning signs should be boiling water. It’s a thing in the UK. 😳

Very friendly place. Nice people, clean spaces, good central location. The parking place is on the other side of the road and costs £3 for 3 hours. Is free from 20h to 8h. Theres also a breakfast that is good at a fine price of £6.5 per person. Its a hostel, so you have to deal with other people in your room and communities spaces, but as long as it’s possible was a nice stay.

The mattress was uncomfortable.

Great location and staff

Need to climb 3 flights of stair outside the building for private rooms (not so good with large suitcases). The linens are rough.

Hostel is at an ideal location with good amenities. It is well maintained and staff was very friendly and useful.
