VILLA IN PIETRA Kalamaras

The villa is absolutely stunning, with a rustic and a charming atmosphere located in a very remote idyllic area. The villa is surrounded by a greenery land of vineyard, with acres of grapes and beautiful trees of lemons. We loved the spacious home and the private pool which we thoroughly enjoyed. Grateful to the friendly hosts accommodating us in their beautiful villa.

The location of the villa is too remote and far from everything. There are no local supermarkets or convenience stores nearby. The main supermarket Lidl is a good 7-10 min drive away, therefore not suitable to walk there and back. This isn’t ideal if you don’t have a car. I had to do a big shop from Lidl that lasted us enough for the trip otherwise a taxi fare would have cost 20 euros each way. The same applies to getting to the main town of Zakynthos which is also around 20 min drive/up to 30 euros each way. The taxi fares are not cheap unfortunately so I would rent a car. I wish the hosts informed us or gave us a heads up about this so we could have planned our holiday better. Other cons: The WiFi wasn’t great. Toilet tissue cannot be flushed, has to be binned. Missing essentials i.e. no sugar, kitchen roll, and extra toilet tissue. Couple of taxis found it difficult to locate the villa so this made it a nuisance when organising trips.

The villa is luxurious, super spacious and very stylish - every corner could be a movie set. The gardens are nicely kept with lots of blooming flowers and fruit trees. Housekeeper who comes to clean the pool etc. was super friendly.

We booked this villa mostly because of the pool. We have however not thought of the fact that it is located in the middle of nature and that makes a pool in the dry season attract all kinds of thirsty animals, mostly wasps, even in July. About 3-5 per minute ended up in the pool, I counted over 100 wasps in there after returning from a beach morning. This is in no way the owners fault, but it bothered us because half alive wasps can still sting and we were worried about our kid and thus one of us was 100% occupied fishing wasps out all the time while in the pool. Also, we missed a proper coffee maker, e.g. a Nespresso machine. Just regular simple filter coffee maker did not seem appropriate for the price of this villa. The recommendation to close all window shuts before leaving the villa is quite unpractical, there were no blinds or thick curtains to block out the light in the evening, just the wooden window shuts from the outside. Lastly, there were lots of mosquitos (again, not the owners fault) and no mosquito nets in the windows of the bedrooms. Just mosquito nets around the beds which blocked any air ventilation and made us sweat and catch our breath at night. All of this is not a total dealbreaker but limited our comfort. We stayed in villas with 1/3 of the price on the island but a much higher level of comfort (mosquito nets on windows, kitchen equipment, electronic blinds…) but of course these came without a pool.

Het was geweldig! Hele fijn verhuurders. Verder is het zwembad super groot en verkoelend. Top vakantie!
