    I recently stayed at Hanoi Elpis Hotel in Hanoi’s Old Quarter and overall had a mixed but reasonably positive experience. The biggest advantage of this hotel is its excellent location. Being situated in the Old Quarter, it is surrounded by numerous eateries, shops for daily needs, currency exchange counters, and travel agencies. The lively “party” atmosphere of the area is a highlight—especially in the evenings, when the streets come alive with people dining outdoors, music playing, and a vibrant social scene that continues late into the night. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. They even assisted in carrying my luggage up to the fourth floor, which was appreciated. They are also able to arrange travel packages upon request, which adds to the convenience. In terms of facilities, the room was equipped with air conditioning and had a clean bathroom. While the room itself was on the smaller side, it felt acceptable considering the price point. However, it is important to note that **the hotel does not have a lift**, which may be inconvenient for guests with heavy luggage or mobility concerns. There are a few drawbacks worth noting. The hotel is not located on the main road but rather on a narrow side street, which may make it slightly harder to find. The building itself appears quite old, which reflects the general character of the Old Quarter but may not appeal to everyone. The most significant downside during my stay was an overflowing sewage pipe near the entrance, which created an unpleasant experience every time I entered or exited the hotel. Overall, if you are looking for a budget-friendly stay in a prime, lively location and don’t mind some compromises in infrastructure and space, this hotel can be a reasonable choice.

    Excellent central location but not noisy at night. Staff very friendly and helpful with aiding airport transfers. Room was large and has a balcony, all facilities needed were available. Cleanliness not the best in bathroom or bed but still great value for money.

    I stayed at this hotel for 7 nights. The reception area appears quite run down and does not resemble the photos shown on Agoda. However, the receptionist was friendly and helpful throughout my stay. They assisted me in finding the nearest money exchange and greeted me warmly whenever I passed through the reception area. One of the reasons I booked this hotel was because the Agoda listing and room photos indicated that the rooms included a bathtub. After checking in, I was informed by reception that none of the rooms in the hotel actually have bathtubs, which was disappointing. There is no lift in the building, and the staircase is relatively narrow. Guests staying on the upper floors should be prepared to climb 4–5 flights of stairs. The room did not have a safety deposit box as advertised. After I raised the issue, the reception staff kindly provided a small locker with a key. However, the keypad locking function was not operational, so the locker could only be locked and unlocked using the key. Housekeeping was limited. Towels were changed daily, and the housekeeping staff removed leaves and flowers from the balcony as well as items left on the floor. However, during my entire stay, the room floor was not swept and the bed sheets and pillowcases were not changed. The most significant issue was the drainage situation outside the hotel. During rainfall, sewage overflowed from a manhole opposite the entrance, making it difficult to enter or leave the property. On multiple occasions, I had to wait for city workers to pump the sewage to another manhole further down the road before I could access the hotel. Even on some dry days, sewage water could be seen flowing toward the manhole outside. Overall, the staff were polite and helpful, but the inaccurate room description, lack of proper housekeeping and recurring sewage problems significantly affected my stay.
