Friendly staff, nice big room, great views especially from the front and garden and a good breakfast.
The hotel is a bit faded, although we quite liked its charm.

A lovely family run hotel which is a very quiet with stunning views over the fells and is a short drive to Cockermouth. The bar and lounge area are very comfortable for relaxing in. We had a nice evening meal in the very large restaurant and the breakfast was great with plenty of choice and good portions. The bed was comfortable albeit it was a small double not a full size double. A beautiful old building which needs a lot of money spending on it unfortunately.
Very tired carpets. The shower room floor wasn’t tiled at some edges and one tile under the shower tray had broken off leaving a sharp edge and a large hole underneath.

They served a good traditional English breakfast, but limited choice outside of that. The coffee was good.
The Young man who was in reception and serving us at breakfast was very polite and friendly.
The premises are very worn. Threadbare carpets, peeling paint, and a 'musty' odour in some areas.
The mattress had seen better days. It had semi collapsed and we could feel the springs poking through.
