Oarsman's Bay Lodge

WARNING: Staying here may ruin the rest of your trip to Fiji. If this isn't your last accommodation in Fiji, every other resort will have a very hard time living up to the experience you'll have at Oarsman's. This place is unbelievably peaceful. The staff are truly the heart and soul of the resort, but that doesn't mean everything else isn't exceptional as well. The property is beautiful and extremely well maintained. The beach right in front of the resort is stunning and feels like a giant swimming pool thanks to the calm, crystal-clear water. We spent hours snorkeling there and saw an incredible variety of marine life: lionfish, rays, starfish, giant clams, large schools of fish, and even a small reef shark. The hill behind the resort offers amazing views of both sides of the island and can be reached with a short 20-minute hike. The excursions are excellent, and the complimentary activities such as kayaking and the coconut demonstration were also fantastic. The food was consistently outstanding, and the daily afternoon tea was a lovely touch. We stayed in the shared dormitory and were genuinely impressed by how comfortable it was. The beds are separated by walls, which gives you a level of privacy that is uncommon in shared accommodation. It was clean, comfortable, and much better than we expected. What truly makes Oarsman's special, however, is its people. Every staff member was attentive, helpful, genuine, and always smiling. Their warmth and hospitality made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. What I particularly appreciated is that Oarsman's doesn't try to be a luxury resort. Instead, it focuses on delivering an authentic island experience with outstanding hospitality, and it succeeds brilliantly. We spent three incredibly relaxing days here, and I honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience. I sincerely hope to return one day and see these wonderful people again. This place was wonderful for a beautiful location where you could swim in beautiful lagoon directly from the beach. The bures we quiet and peaceful to sleep in. However; staff wise I felt for the price I had paid was a tad unsettling. It was on day 2 of my stay where I went to order drinks and the new girl there had asked me in almost an accusation way" if I had drank anything earlier in the day from the bar? " Mind you I knew she was only there for 2 weeks and still was quite new so I clarified no I did not. Then she proceeded to try to get me to sign a bill receipt without anything written on it 🙄 no price or items were written down. I asked her politely to please write down the drink items with prices before I sign and she from this point forward started giving me and my husband very evil looks and treating us very unkind. I dont feel we did anything wrong by wanting to sign a receipt with it filled in appropriately. Another following incident was another staff member had mentioned we would do a collaboration together and we rehearsed and in the end there was no communication that this wasnt the plan anymore. So I had felt mislead with poor communication. Aside from that we received some of the best massages ever 🙌 😌 and highly recommend the spa treatments. We also did a cave tour and the guide for this was very kind and professional and we highly recommend this. Additionally food was delicious 😋 the best fish we had ever eaten this entire trip in Fiji. The cooking team makes delicious meals filled with a variety of protein, vegetables and fruit and I was always left satisfied after the meals.

We wish we could stay longer, staffs welcome you like family, our room was cozy, clean, and quiet. We were able to assess the beach easily by walking through a beautiful lane. Foods here are exceed my expectation, fresh fruit, fish, meats are well-cooked. Unbeatable view at the shore and underwater.

We visited several resorts in the Yasawa Islands, and the beach here at Oarsman’s bay is exceptional. The snorkelling was not that great as the reef was dying, however the waters were crystal clear and blue. Food: this was what we disliked the most about the resort, the meals are extremely overpriced and you have no choice for lunch or dinner menus. It was disappointing to be forced to pay for food and not be able to really digest it. We ended up just filling our tummies with cake most of the time. The portions are also very small so make sure you bring extra snacks. I would really recommend that this resort have more options for guests in terms of food. It’s the most important thing because on an island with no restaurant and no where else to stay we are really desperate for good food. It really ruins your entire day. I couldn’t really eat the meals on most days. We stayed at Paradise Cove after Oarsman’s bay and what a difference! We payed $320 for a garden bungalow at Paradise and it was so much better value for money than Oarsman’s where the beachfront bures were $500+ plus the compulsory meal plan. Side note: the staff were great and upgraded our room for free. The room Service was horrible, no fresh towels provided or new sheets for the beds. Also, we would really appreciate as guests if the staff are treated better. During the Kava ceremony we insisted that the workers try the drink as well and they didnt even drink and said they are on working time. Come on it’s just a drink! We would much better enjoy our stay when staff are flourishing happy. Not one staff member was ever seen sitting down. Please treat your staff better management!
