About this house rental

3 beds and 2 baths home with modern gourmet kitchen on 4 private waterfront acres. This quintessential Maine home is named in memory of Tides, our beloved yellow Labrador Retriever of 13 years, and the ocean tides which will quickly become your best friend and companion when staying at our beautiful Maine retreat. An environmentally friendly home—powered by solar and an automatic standby generator—nestled on 4 waterfront acres with a private road. Our home has a direct path to our private rock beach and water's edge deck offering direct access to the water and Casco Bay. This large family house features 3 large bedrooms and 2 full baths, including the master bedroom and a master bath en suite on the main living level. This very private residence offers a unique setting to "get away from it all” and unwind. Yet it is also within a 12 minute drive to Brunswick, only 45 minutes to Portland Airport. and roughly 2 1/2 hour drive to Boston.

A perfect few days for us might be spent kayaking right in front of our residence, watching the sunrise over the water, possibly catching a glimpse of an eagle, watching the lobster boats go by while having breakfast, walking down our private road and taking in the beautiful scenery. We will often simply enjoy watching the ocean tides (we have an 11 foot tide) and also walking on the muddy tidal flats which at low tide extend several hundred yards into the bay. A visit to Brunswick to the "Crystal Farms" farmers market for some of the local produce is a favorite Saturday morning adventure. We highly recommend bringing home some of the local seafood, dining on our enormous deck with a glass of wine, as the moon shines on the water, flooding the house with lunar light.
Close by is the historic Town of Bath and a little further down the coastal highway is "Reds" where you can feast on world renown lobster rolls (be prepared to stand in line) .
Being die hard "foodies" we love that we can be in Portland in about 45 minutes and dine at some of the finest restaurants that New England has to offer with excellent choices in farm to table dining. "The Street" and "Fore Street" are two favorites and a visit to Portland is not complete without a stop at "Standard Bakery" and "Becky's Diner". If you love sushi then a visit to "Miyake" is a gastronomical experience to be savored. We also recommend checking out some of Portland’s exciting night life with an excellent selection of ocean front bars and local breweries – it’s a good time and you can always take an UBER back to Harpswell. Don't want to drive to Portland then stay local and check out a nearby dining treasure (in season) at "Morse's Cribstone Grill".
A good way to work off all that food would be a trip to nearby Bradbury State Park for a hike to the top of the mountain or, weather permitting, kayaks are available for rental and can be delivered directly to the house.
A visit to "LL Bean", along with the other fine retail outlet shops, is almost a requirement in nearby Freeport. Take the scenic Pleasant Hill road back to Brunswick and perhaps stop off first at "Bow Street Market" . Brunswick is one of our favorite towns and has so much to offer from restaurants, pubs , art galleries, Bowdoin College and did I mention "Gelato Fiasco"?

You will be wondering where the time went and will understand why they say: "There are only two types of people in the world , those who live in Harpswell and those that wish they did".

Note- In the "about Stan" you will see information to a magnificent Quinta in Sintra, Portugal which we also manage (see last two pictures in our Tides Listing) . We offer luxurious accommodations for up to 20 people in two adjoining villas with a total of 10 rooms .

The PROS: - Comfortable and well-appointed home on a private lot (though the mattresses were decidedly not comfortable and I would expect better at this price point). The CONS: - Inaccurately advertised. The listing mentions "Our home has a direct path to our private beach and water's edge deck offering direct access to the water and Casco Bay." This is not true -- there is no private "beach." What they are calling the "beach" is actually yards of thick mud (which your feet will sink into) you have to walk through to get into the water without a boat. Our child cried because she was so disappointed. We were willing to pay the premium price to stay here due to the claim of beach access because we knew it would be difficult to drive to the beach with small children. Welp, we still ended up having to drive to the beach because the beach at this property is a literal mud beach. I grew up near rocky coastline and am familiar with rocky beaches -- that is not the issue here. The issue here is mud, which is just not traversable by foot. This place is really only good for people who don't care about beach access or who would access the water by boat/kayak only. I wouldn't be so negative in my review if I didn't feel that there were some serious misrepresentation of the property in the listing. I even went back and checked the wording to make sure it wasn't just me mis-remembering how it was advertised - nope. The quotes here in my review are taken verbatim from the listing as of my writing this today. It looks like they may have reduced the price since we booked this place... now if they only corrected this misrepresentation in the listing, this could be a good place to stay. - Very buggy. Just be prepared to have to use a lot of bug spray.
