Sitting at an elevation of nearly 7400’ and nestled between over 600’ of Florida River frontage and the foot of a mountain, this property is Colorado at its finest. This amazing, 3.65-acre property enjoys supreme privacy in the heart of the valley surrounded by two large acreage ranches and is just 8 miles to Main Street in Durango.
You will arrive at the property on all paved roads and pass over a private bridge to get to the home. The home is set up as two separate, self-contained living areas totaling 3971 sf. (separated by a common walls). Each side has its own kitchen, living room, bedrooms, baths, fireplace and laundry. You can book one side, or, for larger groups or ultimate privacy you can reserve both sides.
For the purposes of this web listing, we are required to list each one separately. This listing is for the "Bear House"...a 2-story side (2 bedroom). The listing for the 3 bedroom side (the "Trout House") is VRBO listing #1652431.
The 2 bedroom option features an open kitchen, dining and family room layout with 2 guest bedrooms on the second floor. This side can easily accommodate 7 guests (master has a king bed, bedroom 2 has three single beds and there is a pullout sofa). There is a bath on each of the floors and laundry on the first floor. There is a river rock fireplace and the kitchen is fully equipped. There is approximately 2,000 sf so plenty of room to spread out.
NOTE: The other side features single level living with a large master suite (with jetted tub), 2 additional guest rooms and a 2nd full bath. Relax on one of two porches that overlook the river.
Crib and high chair are available upon request for either listing.
Whichever option you choose (or both for ultimate privacy) this is a perfect location to enjoy afternoons relaxing on the multiple decks, casting dries on the roaring river, enjoying the wildlife or playing on the lush lawns under the soaring trees. Most captivating of all is the 600 feet of private frontage along the Florida River—an absolute paradise for angling enthusiasts. If you plan to cast a line into these pristine waters, simply remember to secure your fishing license ahead of time.Modern Comforts & Idyllic MomentsWhile the setting feels wonderfully detached from the frantic pace of modern life, connectivity is seamless; the internet is remarkably robust, pairing perfectly with the Apple TV for an evening stream. However, the true luxury here is found in the quiet moments. We spent our early mornings sipping coffee on the porch as the world woke up, and our evenings surrendered to the hypnotic, soothing melody of the rushing river. It is a deeply restorative experience.Host Hospitality & Guest WellnessCommunication with the owners was flawless—attentive, gracious, and thoroughly professional.For fellow travelers arriving from lower elevations, a brief note on acclimatization: the altitude requires respect. We highly recommend purchasing a few cans of Boost Oxygen to ease the transition. Dehydration can quickly compromise your stay, so be vigilant about drinking water while mindfully limiting your intake of caffeine and alcohol.

Absolutely wonderful stay. The location is unbeatable, just far enough outside of Durango to feel very secluded but still only a 10-15 minute drive to town. The kitchen was fully stocked and allowed us to cook our entire Thanksgiving family meal with ease! Check-in was seamless and we were communicated everything we needed to know ahead of time. Very quiet and peaceful. The river going right under the driveway was awesome. Can't wait to go back!

For us, this property could not have been any better. This location is irreplaceable with gorgeous views seen from every room. The kitchen/dining area opens to the living room all with extensive windows and extraordinary views.My husband fished morning and dusk, catching (releasing) many trout. Morning devotions were magical at the dining table. The Bear cabin has a comfortable kitchen set up, and the cabin has plenty of books and games to enjoy. From bed, to shower, to lay out, to comfort, this property won us over. Have I mentioned the visiting turkeys that passed through the yard? Sweetest stay...can't wait to come back. The hosts were kind, generous with information and quick to respond. 20 mins from downtown Durango.
