Mendocino Coast Cliffside Cottage—Shangri-La

The unit was exactly as pictured, super charming with a stove heater and well equipped for 2 people, and with a super private hot tub. The owners are environmentally conscious and add nice touches such a welcome bottle of wine and chilled water cans/metal bottles and “Who gives a Crap” toilet paper and clearly labeled trash and recycle bin under the sink. The unit has several small appliances including a toaster and coffee grinder. We hope to be back again, and will bring a champagne bottle stopper as a gift for the unit, as it was the only thing missing to make it absolutely perfect!!

This was our fourth (fifth?) stay and it brought back so many wonderful memories. The view can not be beat - rocks and white water putting on quite a show. The bed and pillows are very comfortable and the shower is great. It's a secluded, romantic setting - just be sure to bring plenty of wine to enjoy while there!

The time was truly extraordinary. The view is the best, accommodations are quaint and relaxing, the hot tub was perfect, while we don’t drink, they did provide us a bottle of wine, and personalized bed robes were available. The hostess was phenomenal. She thought of every detail to make our stay here memorable. We will be back.

The view is the best feature. It is very similar to a place we rent in Hawaii at Easter. We liked it so much we decided to rent here at Easter. As other reviews said the Ledford House restaurant is steps away. The food and service at the Ledford House is very good and it is very reasonably priced. Some other reviews described the property as "rustic" or "basic". We didn't find that to be true. The kitchen is very modern and spacious considering how small the property is. But the size overall is perfect for a couple.

Quaint, older cottage with stunning views. Very quiet and private for some down time. As a previous review mentioned, we too had issues with the blinds which were frayed the edges. The furniture was a bit tired but comfortable. The cottage was clean. The kitchen had the essentials. Check in and out was efficient. We appreciated the welcome gift of coffee and munchies. You can't beat the view on this one.

Remarkable little getaway with unsurpassed view of the ocean. Property is as advertised. The cabin itself is modest, but the hospitality is good and the tranquility unsurpassed.

There were some maintenance issues neglected. Two Window blinds were inoperable And the kitchen faucet Handle fell off

Unbeatable view from everywhere in the cabin. We had the perfect stay, relaxing and restful. Being about 100 ft from the fabulous Ledford House restaurant didn’t hurt either. Just an FYI, if you’re looking for luxury, this is not it. The furnishings are very basic, except the bed which is really comfortable. We definitely plan to return, this was perfect for us.

Shangri-La is magical! My two dogs and I stayed for four nights and it was just so peaceful. I could lie in bed and just stare out into the stunning blue Pacific. The house is small, yet it never felt small, and had thoughtful touches and all the amenities needed. The bed was super comfortable (a must for me), and the furniture was also. The hot tub and small deck felt like my own private luxury. Definitely eat at the Ledford House just up the way, excellent food and gorgeous location. Genevieve is a kind and responsive host, couldn’t ask for more! This is a cozy and quiet retreat from the world with the rhythmic sound of the ocean the best musical backdrop.

My spouse and I spent 4 wonderful days at the cottage-cooking, relaxing on the deck and in the jacuzzi all the while enjoying the scenic views. It’s a short drive to Mendocino and the Anderson valley.

This cottage is everything you could want it to be: remote, cozy, stunning views from all sides,large fenced in yard for your dog(s), a hot ton in a beautiful sun room, places to walk/eat/grab that missing ingredient you forgot to pack, but if you don’t want to see anyone, you don’t have to. Short drive to Mendocino and Fort Bragg- two great spots for hiking and wine. This is such a special place! Thanks to Genevieve for her quick responses and allowing us to stay an extra day! We will be back!

One lovely big room with big windows and outside deck looking over the ocean. Extremely comfortable king size bed. Many thoughtful touches.

We have been staying at the Shangri La for the past 15 years. This is the 2nd time since Jon and Genevieve owned it, and they’ve made some nice improvements. We love staying here and will definitely be back again.

This place feels very special and spiritual. It is nestled on a cliff isolated from others except its sister studio next door. It is the type of place that makes you feel like doing nothing but watching the view all day, every day. The actual place is very comfortable. The interior is not newly remodeled or newly upgraded however, everything from kitchen, bathroom and bed and furniture was more than adequate and comfortable. Regardless, I have stayed at countless vacation rentals and for two people enjoying themselves over all this was my favorite. For those who want to experience the Mendo Breath and special energy the Mendocino cost has, this IS the place to stay.

This was our longest vacation at the coast and most expensive. The cottage was perfect. We had bunnys, eagles, and hummingbirds in our yard along with spring flowers everywhere. Peace. I loved it. I always think I'll do more but the view was so compelling that we stayed mostly close to "home". I'll miss the sea singing my lullaby overnight.

We had a wonderful couple of days in this super cute place. The property could do with a little updating but we had a lovely time. The view however gets 10 stars. It is absolutely magical.

The view is like nothing I’ve ever experienced. We loved it, in fog and sun. Knowledgeable and friendly property owners.

The view at Shangri-La is every bit as fantastic as the pictures show. Even if it is a bit chilly or the wind is blowing, you can completely appreciate the place and the location. Conveniently located within 10 minutes of Mendocino.

This cottage is a Shangri-la Paradise. The view from the cottage is truly Heavenly! You are mesmerized by the amazing beauty of the ocean and the ever changing scenery throughout the day. The beauty of the ocean coast in the different weathers...it being glorious sunsets, clear mornings, clear nights, or misty days. Each day we spent was a picture postcard. My husband on a very clear night was able to take a picture of the moon and see the craters of the moon from the picture. He also was able to take pictures of the milky way and the stars. The cottage is cozy and quaint with all the amenities you need to enjoy your stay. The owners are very kind, helpful, and understanding. We spent our days just looking at the view, reading, or relaxing in the hot tub. We enjoyed our stay in the cottage so much that most of the time we cooked or picked up meals and ate them at the cottage. We found peace and serenity staying in this wonderful cottage. We stayed for 3 nights at Jon and Gen’s cliff house. They take COVID-cleaning seriously, and we had no worries. We spent most of our time on the deck enjoying the sound and the view of the ocean, and we were lucky enough to catch a beautiful sunset wo the fog. We cooked all our meals at the house, and the kitchen is very well equipped with nice pots and pans. I strongly recommend this house and I’d love to come back some day!

We loved this house! We needed an escape from everything and that was exactly what we got. From the views, to the hot tub, to the great binder filled with information and suggestions, the very friendly owners have made this place a great place to relax and recharge. We have recommended it to friends and family, some have already booked stays, and will continue to do so. Personally, we are looking forward to our next stay at this amazing little piece of paradise. We booked Shangri La Cottage in Albion after hearing about it from a friend. It sits on a bluff overlooking the ocean with a stunning view from both inside the cottage and the deck. The cottage is comfortable and cozy; small but really the ideal size for a getaway. The furniture and bed were comfortable and we happily lazed away our evenings after a day spent exploring nearby towns. There is a good restaurant within walking distance, but this visit we took advantage of the studio kitchen to make our own meals. We look forward to a return visit.

This property is absolutely the perfect weekend get away. My girlfriend and I planned this trip and stay up here for 3 nights for her birthday weekend. The pictures only slightly do it a justice on how beautiful the view is from the deck. We were greeted by the hosts who were both very pleasant individuals and gave off a very warm/friendly vibe from the moment we arrived. There are plenty of fun adventurous things to do around this area, but you can also just relax and take in the ocean sound with a miraculous view. I would recommend this rental to anyone who is wanting a nice relaxing getaway. Thank you for letting us stay here and helping my girlfriend have a great birthday weekend! -Nick

We have stayed in lots of places on the coast and this cottage has the most extensive, breathtaking and panoramic views of the coast, with amazing cliffs and rocks in the ocean. You can enjoy the views from every place on the deck, hot tub as well as from everywhere inside of the house . We were able to enjoy the beauty of the coast every minute (from the deck and inside of the house) regardless of the weather so it's truly a perfect place. Secluded and private, yet close to town and only 10min from Mendocino. We didn't even go to Mendocino until the day we checked out as we didn't want to leave this beautiful cottage. It has everything you need, with coffee, tea, and even some delicious snacks! I have never paid much attention to reviews that talked about the hosts as it seemed that as long as the check-in was easy, it didn't matter as much. Well, this time we had an extremely challenging situation on our way to the cottage and we had no idea what to do so we decided to drive to the cottage and ask the hosts for some guidance. Long story short, they took care of everything and went out of their way to help us sort it out. We felt bad for imposing on their time and giving them so much trouble but we quickly realized that they truly enjoy helping people and they genuinely care about others. We could not have been more fortunate to have such kindhearted and knowledgeable hosts and that made all the difference for us and for our stay. We cannot wait to return to this magical cottage and we can't recommend it enough!
