Enjoyed the lounge and pool table - was a nice area to unwind after a long day.

No place to charge my phone - but was no biggie as had a portable battery charger.

The location and flexible parking spots

Some are not tidy in the kitchen. Didn't have space for our kitchen/food stuff because the fridge and freezer are almost full. We understand anyway because those were the peak days.

Great hostel with plenty of activities and parking

We stayed at Beachcomber Lodge & Backpacker in Kaitaia and had a very pleasant experience. We stayed in a shared 6-bed dorm, and the room was clean and well maintained. The bathrooms and toilets were shared, which is standard for this type of accommodation. We especially liked the large, well-equipped kitchen. It was very spacious and had all the necessary kitchen utensils, with several sinks, multiple stoves, and plenty of fridges, which made cooking very convenient even when the hostel was busy. There was also a spacious common lounge area with books and board games, as well as table tennis and a pool table, which was a great bonus for relaxing in the evenings. Free parking was available on the hostel grounds, which was very convenient for those traveling by car. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and overall the hostel offered a comfortable stay with good facilities and a nice atmosphere. A solid choice for budget travelers in Kaitaia.

The bunk bed in the shared room had a broken ladder on the top bunk, which made some noise when I climbed down while others were sleeping. Also, the kitchen and common lounge are closed at night, so access is limited during late hours.

Almost everything, great people and value for money was decent. The rooms are nice and I was even upgraded.

Only slight gripe was that the room backed onto a property that had a heap of very loud dogs that were mostly fine but occasionally fired up

Good value for money - I had a whole dorm to myself which was delightful!

The socialising area is outside the dorms so a friendly and joyous party until midnight made it tricky to sleep. It was a Saturday night though so I guess it was fair enough for the seasonal workers who seem to be accommodated there to want to relax!

Great central backpackers

Good showers, close to town, and friendly staff. Resident cat Lucy is a treat. Good size lounge and dining spaces with heaps of room in the kitchen. The dorms were clean and comfy and the place had a great vibe.

Good value but just misses the spot

Excellent location and good value for money with comfortable communal area. Despite the listing showing parking as unavailable, it was in fact available which was a bonus.

Unfortunately the WiFi did not reach the room and the kitchen was not very well equipped with some basics. Although bedding was provided, it was very thin which led to a cold night’s sleep in the winter.

The kitchen was very nice and had a cooking island

The facilities are very old and the showers could get an upgrade. Also the beds make some noices everytime you move. The mattress is so done that you probably your back hurts sometimes after sleeping.

We got locked out of carpark because we returned after 11pm And we should have called after hours number but we didn't want to wake anyone up but we could have because the staff were very kind and helpful The staff did suggest it but maybe extra info about gate being shut after dark
