Maison Sahel - African Art & Coastal Serenity

The neighborhood of Yoff is pretty packed, but you wouldn't know it at Maison Sahel. The property is 2-3 blocks off one of the major highways through Dakar, insulating it from noise and bustle while still making it an easy spot for Yango pick-ups to the rest of the city. Our room had a beautiful view of the beach, a mosque and the palm tree that was the center of the property's landscaping. The room was spacious, the interior of the property was well decorated with local art and there were plenty of common spaces on the first and second floor to work, write, gather with others and watch the day go by. Sahel is close to shops for bottled water and snacks, a block from the beach, and a 20min walk to restaurants in the Ngor neighborhood to the west (check out art at Galerie36 and Indian-Italian fusion cuisine at Sea & Salt). If you're feeling more adventurous, a 20min walk through the warrens of homes to the east lead to the fishing wharves, mosque and surfer beaches of Yoff Tongor. The property is safe and the manager, Amadou, had to be among the most helpful people we met on our three weeks in Senegal, offering us tips on what to see and do, how to navigate the neighborhood and how to get access to other cities and towns outside Dakar. His English is impeccable! Midi, the property dog, is extremely sweet. Breakfast is simple but tasty.

A welcoming, stylish, comfortable and homely guest house with everything you need. The photos give you an idea, but the stay exceeded expectations.

It’s a beautiful guesthouse in a quite street outside the centre. The rooms are nicely decorated, also the common areas are very tasteful and the whole place is very pleasant. There is a nice little terrace and a garden with a clean and refreshing pool. The (French) breakfast is very good, with croissants, bread, fruit, coffee and juice, or eggs if you like. A special thanks goes to the staff - the whole team is very kind and helpful, they helped me to organise taxis, order food and generally find my way around. It’s been my 3rd time in the guesthouse and I will definitely return!
