Carena House

We had a great stay and Susan looked after us so well. The room was very comfortable and clean with an ensuite bathroom and a good shower! We also chose to include breakfast which was fresh, beautifully cooked and plenty of it. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you Susan 🙏

We had the top floor room and while we were okay going up and down all of the stairs, this might be difficult for someone with accessibility challenges. In this case, would suggest asking for a room lower down.

This property is 15-20 min walk to the town centre and you can pick up a scenic walk along the Stour to get there that takes a little longer but is definitely worth the effort. I travelled to Canterbury by train and this place is only a 10min walk from the East station. The owner is a super friendly and knowledgeable and goes out of her way to help. She was full of good suggestions on how to spend my time on my mini break and first visit to the city. I would stay here again and would recommend this B&B. The place was spotlessly clean. Although the house is on quite a busy road I had a room to the back and it was very quiet.

A friendly welcome. Room & bathroom were very clean.

We thought we had booked bed AND breakfast, but it appears guests need to specifically request & arrange breakfast and pay extra. Even the info in a photo frame in the room did not state this; it just said breakfast served between 8 am & 9 am OR by prior arrangement (we took that to mean an earlier or later time). We had a room on the front, so was a lot of traffic noise (Fri & Sat nights. We prefer to sleep with window open for fresh air, so probably not such an issue for others who would close it. Room lacked some TLC - the sealant applied on walls in shower / toilet room had not been smoothed & cleaned off, after it had dried. This applied inside the shower as well. Wood trim at skirting level was broken in one place and not finished off adequately. Untidy hole in wall where we imagine a previous toilet holder had been placed. A real shame as this detail would make such a difference to the overall feel. Room a bit cramped with 2 sets of room dividers and clothes hanging stand. A heads up to other guests: we were required to remove footwear upon arrival & leave on a shoe stand in entrance hall. Whilst we can appreciate the need to protect carpets, our room had hard flooring and also, not so sure about the hygiene of walking barefoot where others have walked also in bare feet. Take slippers! Overall, we feel we overpaid for getting no breakfast and a room that felt like it was still not finished properly. Sadly, we would not rate this a 4 star, although clearly we cannot comment on other rooms or food.
