Il Fuoco di Archimede - Ortigia

The location was amazing. Everything we needed we had.

The water pressure was a little low.

The location is very central and within easy walking distance from all restaurants, shops and attractions. We were traveling with another couple so the apartment was perfect for four people with two bedrooms with bathrooms separated by the well appointed kitchen and dining space. Beds were very comfortable and the apartment quiet at night. Our host Alessandra met us on arrival and recommended some great restaurants and was always available to answer any questions. We loved Ortigia.

There's a large flight of steps to get to the apartment, this was not at all a problem for us but could be for people with mobility issues.

There was no breakfast provided but there were facilities for making our own. The kitchen area included a counter top oven, refrigerator, a microwave, expresso machine, dishwasher and stove top. A laundry room was available with a washing machine and two drying racks which could be brought into the unit. Washing machine detergent was provided as was detergent for the dishwasher. Alessandra, who met us to hand over the keys and to acquaint us with the unit, was lovely. She also provided us with a large bowl of fruit and numerous items in the cupboards and refrigerator as well as coffee pods for the espresso machine. Alessandra also provided us with several bottles of water. Alessandra certainly made herself available to answer questions prior to our arrival and during our stay. She also made suggestions for restaurants which she thought we would enjoy.

There was a cleanliness issue. The shower stalls had removable dirt. There seems to be a problem with items rusting. The dish rack was rusted as was the side of the counter top oven. In the bathrooms, the mirror over the sink had numerous rust spots and the shelf for shampoo and soap in the shower stall was so badly rusted that we could not possibly use it. The standing cupboard in one of the bedrooms contained extra pillows but these were not in good condition and no extra pillow slips were provided. There were extra covers, towels and toilet paper stored in this cupboard and soooo much more. It really needed to be cleaned of non-essentials; toys, plastic bags containing old receipts, and other bits. Our stay was 10 days long but we were not offered a change of bed linens. As mentioned by other reviewers, there was a rather long flight of stairs to the unit but the banister was absent for the top 4 steps. Lack of banisters and railings does seem to be quite common in various buildings and establishments. This is obviously not an expectation in this area.
