Ocean View Beach Resort - Kalpitiya

The guesthouse is picture perfect with little huts and a restaurant right at the beach. Our hut was spacious, clean and well maintained. From the huts with porch (chairs and hammock) it's only one minute walk to the beach. Sitting in or outside the restaurant, in a deck chair or a hammock directly at the beach feels awesome! During the day, one can easily choose between sunny and shaded places to sit and relax. The beach is nice for a refreshing dip at all times of the day. The views at sunset are truly amazing. We enjoyed the laid-back feeling here very much! The restaurant provides different snacks throughout the day (fresh juices, sandwiches or a salad with a great vinaigrette) as well as some options for dinner (well prepared grilled fish with delicious vegetables, mouthwatering kottu, rice or noodles and curry with seafood or meat). The check-in was quick and easy. The owner offered a dolphin tour (with a possible add on of a snorkel trip). In doing so and answering our questions he was very helpful and polite. Additionally, in season there are also kite surfing lessons possible. We chose the half day trip with the company's own boat which starts conveniently right from the guesthouse' s beach. We have seen schools of dolphins with multiple dozens of them splashing through the sea, jumping and twisting. It was a delight to watch them passing by.

Takes time to travel here but worth it for scenery, warm water for swimming. Plenty of restaurants to walk to Basic type accommodation but that's all you need Very enjoyable breakfasts and evening meal Friendly staff Would come here again for sure

We intended to spend one night here but left after an afternoon. We arrived with my wife already falling sick at the time and were looking forward to a decent place for her to rest, but did not feel comfortable for several reasons. The first red flag was raised immediately on arrival when we found out that the owner had no idea of our booking. After interrogating us, he begrudgingly gave us the last available room to use for the night, making a small fuss because it was AC-equipped. Despite this treatment, we would have been happy to stay if the room was acceptable. Not so - it was rundown like the rest of the place, with rust and corrosion on anything metallic in the room. Empty mosquito repellent dispenser bottles were left uncleared and only one towel was provided for a couple - part of an overall pattern of inattention and neglect by the staff and particularly the owner. Ultimately, we decided to forfeit our non-refundable losses and move on to our next trip location the same night. My original intention was to quietly leave and not to post a review for this place since we did not spend a full night, but when we informed the owner that we were leaving early because my wife was sick, his first response was not concern but an accusatory ‘why didn’t you decide properly before coming here?’. I found this offensive to say the least since I had already paid in full and wasn’t asking for compensation in any case. The interaction convinced me to post an honest review even though I normally prefer to live and let live. Traveller beware - you’re welcome.

Great location with access to the beach. Good food available and nice, simple accommodation.
