Pimenta Funchal Downtown

The Location was absolutely amazing, it’s just a short walk to the Centre of Funchal! There is a private parking space which makes you worry less about your car on Madeira. The apartment was equipped with everything we needed and very comfortable!

Er waren een paar kakkerlakken. De keuken is wat sober qua bestek en servies.

It was our second stay there, much praised by both us and our kids for the first time, with a lovely host, a small dose of basic supplies (milk, bread, jam) and an absolutely charming, private patio. Although a bit shabby and dated last year, this time the place looked much better- seems to have its walls repainted, which is great, the sheets and towels smell really nice and the private patio is still a big bonus. Although we booked a family stay - there were two single beds for adults (looking great, but with super squeaky bottom and very uncomfortable mattress), and there is no proper double bed (last time we stayed at a sofa which seems to have been much more comfortable). A new dishwasher, a washing machine, coffee maker and whatever cooking appliances you may need - it is there, including a baby chair, an iron and an umbrella at the patio. Location is a big bonus - walking distance everywhere we needed and a private parking.

Perhaps in comparison with my previous stay, which kids insisted on repeating, I did not feel welcome or expected this time. Perhaps it is super subjective, after staying at Madeira for quite some time at different venues, where the hosts went an extra mile wherever they could, making our stay unforgettable. While here, especially with the amount of money paid, it was not reflected at Pimenta. There was an old litre of milk in the fridge, salt, pepper, and 3 coffee capsules. The contract you get in hand the moment you arrive is really long and blames you for everything that potentially might happen. Fair enough, I would like to know about it before I booked the stay. The entrance code has not changed since last time (1,5 year), which made me feel a bit insecure. The bathroom is still dump and moist, it could have been renovated along with painting the interior, would have made a huuuuuge difference. And last, but probably not least - although we booked our stay to comfortably eat breakfast in the morning of departure, and pack, and in our confirmation it stated 11 am for a check-out (compared with noon at other venues we stayed at Madeira this time), at 9.55 there was a cleaning lady waiting at the door and rushing us, ringing the bell furtively to make sure we are out. I get the COVID precautions and so, we are usually leaving the place as clean as possible, often mopped and hoovered, but this was yet another point to make us feel unwelcome, and dispensable, client paid, client stayed, client gone. A pity. The host, moreover, claimed to have called us 'many times' the day before, but evidently that was not recorded on our mobile - switched on the entire day. WE also got an automatic (?) message that on our second day our apartment is cleaned and ready. Seems it was our last stay there.
