Yue Lake Backpackers

We stayed in a room with a view facing the boardwalk which was lovely, especially during daytime when you could actually enjoy the view - that was the best part of our stay here.

There was no soundproofing - you could hear people next door using their bathroom which was pretty weird to say the least. The furniture in the room wasn't that practical either, with the low lying Japanese style chairs and table being uncomfortable to use. It was also quite a distance to walk to our room from the reception area. The worst part was the staff - this was the one and only time during our 3 weeks of travelling in Taiwan (and staying at 15 different places) where the hotel staff were not friendly - in fact the girl at the reception was quite rude and unhelpful which spoiled our experience of staying at this place. Because of that and the lack of soundproofing I would rate this place less favourably than my usual top rating :)

It feels like you are in the woods. Good breakfast.

The air conditioning was shared with two other rooms, so the temperature depended on the other guests’ preferences. The guest next door wanted it switched off or set to 26°C, which was too warm for me. I woke up sweating in the middle of the night. It would be much better if each room had its own AC controls, as this significantly affected my comfort and sleep.

Our rooms were in a nice location, if a bit of a walk from reception.

The dumb arrangement of the desk and clothes hanging space at the end of the bed and basically inaccessible.

Quirky room with lots of character

For a cheap room in a hostel, it is nice. Lots of light through the big windiw but the view isn't that great. Walls are exceptionally thin: you can hear every word of the conversations next door. And the breakfast was bizarre and inedible
