The breakfast was good.
The hot water wasn't responsive and the shower came out as a trickle in the shared bathroom. Also, the WiFi password on notices was incorrect and the WiFi was turned off on arrival, which seemed very strange.

Our room was nice and warm
There’s is a lovely bar. But as it was quiet we went out.

We faced several challenges in our one-night stay:
There were blood stains on both a towel and the bed sheets, which is completely unacceptable and unsanitary. When I raised this, no apology was offered, and although the man gave us a sheet, we had to change it ourselves.
The bathtub was leaking, leaving part of the bedroom floor wet.
The heating was switched off, and the hot water ran out in the middle of my shower.
The breakfast was also below expectations.
When I wrote complaining, the manager said we were fraudsters. I was shocked. No apology, no attempt to repair or offer any solution, just a blunt accusation. This place needs to be shut down.

The Ben Sheann Hotel has a unique charm with its Victorian architecture, which naturally means some things feel a little older – but that only adds to the atmosphere. What truly stands out is the remarkable dedication of the sole operator, who manages everything with genuine care and commitment. From check-in to breakfast, his personal touch makes the stay special. Thank you for the warm hospitality!

Location was great, room was clean and tidy, breakfast was good and the host was pleasant. It seemed to be one man trying to keep everything going on his own so well done to him for being able to. We enjoyed our stay.
The weather but this couldn't be helped 😃

Breaakfast was great to set you up for a few hours on the local hills and trails. Room good size and comfortable.
Although it was ok.... a more homely. communal seating area/lounge would be good.

Very reasonably priced. Comfortable room. Nice breakfast.
Limited dinner options. Bar seemed to close quite early. But the owner was clearly doing pretty much everything single handed. So well done for keeping the plates spinning.

The location is convenient. There's a village store across the road, and it's half an hour from petrol station, restaurants.
Room 8 seemed ok.
The hotel is infested with bed bugs. The room we were given had adult bugs crawling all over the bed, headboard, mattress and blankets. The toilet had old urine stains all over the porcelain. Staff confirmed the infestation but initially asked us to remain in that room until we insisted to move.
Kitchen breakfast area was very old looking, hygiene standards unacceptable. We chose not to eat the breakfast included in the rate.
The owner/staff member is extremely creepy and odd. I would not recommend it to so solo female travellers.

The area is in between callander and the backend of going up north
Not much In this wee village
Arrived the owner or staff where at the bar stood for ages and looked at us then finally ask our name for booking ok
Showed us to the room which was fine
Got into the room and looked clean needed a wee update some paper coming off wall and wee lick of paint wasn't until I sat on the bed I could small a musty small so I had to spray perfume
The toilet is definitely en suit it's a wee built bathroom within the room
With sliding door which is fine but the bed is the same side bed would be better where TV was so u can't smell the toilet and see who Ur with using the toilet
The shower well that's a wee 9 for me
The kettle wouldn't work told him when we went down to see about bar food which is said to be served between 5-8pm only three things available which I wouldn't eat any
So we had to got callander which wasn't good for my husband as he could even unwind and have a glass of wine
The place it'self has loads of character and would be a fab hotel
The owner or staff as only seen this one man who didn't even get new kettle while we were out for us or even said when we got back oh here sorry this one works
I can laugh as I called it the bates/bratinain hotel cause that's how it felt
Maybe wasn't running at full staff cause summer season hasn't started but don't say you have food when you done really and breakfast was a let down too
Sorry too say, we have passed this wee hotel so many times I was so disappointed and to make matters worse it was a special wkend for us so really kind of upset me

It was warm, comfortable and a good breakfast.Host asw a bit awkward at first but relaxed a bit and was helpful as staying went on.The hotel is clean to a basic level but tired and dated .
When we arrived the hotel looked closed, big blue doors locked tables outside with all paint peeling, falling apart, weeds under table. Would be better kerb appeal to tidy up the tables or take away brush up,empty ashtray. Maybe put a sign on door to say booking in starts at 4pm and some will be available from then because it looked so run down from outside we thought we had been scammed and the place was shut down. This is not a complaint but constructive advice. The owner seems to be doing it up and as a lot of work needing done but I'm sure it will be worth it when finished .

It’s a beautiful building but very run down and need of a total revamp.
I’ve honestly never left a review like this and do so with a heavy heart as the hotel has lots of potential.
The min bar was grimy and dark so we planned to sit out in the sun, big mistake!
We ordered two drinks to sit out side on the picnic benches. The pint of lager was cloudy and tasted like soda water. The gin had flat lemonade in which was poured from a bottle that looked as though it had been open for months. The seats outside aren’t usable we sat on them and it felt like it was going to collapse. The bench also had peeling paint all over and was very uncomfortable to sit on, so we left and went to the pub down the road. 9we left the drinks). The room is mostly clean however very basic. The mattress has springs poking through so very uncomfortable and the pillows were as flat as a pancake. Not a great sleep :(. The sink is weird the taps are so close to the basin it’s hard to get anything under the tap. On reflection the taps were too small for the sink.
The host looked very unkempt which was off putting and struggled with basic social skills. He looked like he really didn’t like being there and he didn’t want the guests there. It all felt very uncomfortable. We left first thing the next morning and would has left that night but had already tried the refreshments down the road so couldn’t drive.

location
Very uncomfortable experience. Doors locked on arrival, smell was unpleasant, host wearing dirty clothes and with dirty hands to greet us and we felt like we were intruding. Breakfast was awful. Bedding is old, sheets worn and the pillows were lumpy and thin.
Pity because it's a beautiful building and with the proper attention could be a fantastic place to relax.

The location of the hotel is great. In the centre of the Strathyre, next to a village shop and scenic paths. Free parking plus free overflow parking with charging points for EV
Problems with electric supply. If you put a katle on most likely you will cause a blackout to entire building. Wifi is down very often. The village itself has very poor 4G coverage (O2 customer)

Beautiful, clean room with a bath in the living room. Very grateful to the host for cooking us dinner, as we were told in the village pub that food was only available for residents, which was a blow!
Room was cold when we got there (it was freezing outside) but once we turned the radiator up it was fine.

We stayed only for one night , on our way home. We had a lovely room with a very comfortable bed. Lovely shower. Breakfast was very tasty and plenty to eat.

Very friendly staff, very comfortable room for the night, and breakfast was terrific! Very good location on the main road up to Loch Tay and Killin.
Was a bit bright in the room at night, would have been good to have darker curtains since our room was looking out onto the main road.

Good location just before you enter the Highlands in earnest. Friendly staff, accomodating breakfast needs, times etc
Shared bathroom, but it was stated when I booked so no problems with that. Would just prefer a private one.

Not much
We were checking in late, and felt like it really put the landlord out. Breakfast was of a one bacon, one sausage, one egg, cold toast type like in a 70's sit-com. Bed VERY uncomfortable, I got a better sleep in a tent with no mattress the night after.

The location is great and the breakfasts was very tasty. Great coffee and veggie full English breakfast.
The entire hotel appears to be run by a single gentleman. For a bystander, the place looks abandoned or closed. The man who runs it is not very sociable and you should not expect any chit chat or hints about local attractions. We spent our stay wondering if there's been some tragedy in this place, because of how sad and closed off that man was. It's definitely not a place that lets you forget all your worries and reset. We didn't mind, but some people might.

Horrible breakfast, uncomfortable beds, freezing rooms, and no staff at night: if you are unlucky enough to need assistance for any reason, you won't find it here. The man who greets guests for check-in is also totally lacking in social skills, and made both myself and my husband very uncomfortable. Stay literally anywhere else. It'll be nicer.
Here was the owner's reply to a review that I posted elsewhere:
"There was a power cut to 80,000 people, on the customers last night she was back at 20:15 she had a torch and went to bed. The heating was stained for 8 hours, she left at the time she would have had breakfast. She wanted a that night money back, tried blackmail."
This is categorically false. No torch was provided. I used my phone to navigate the corridors. We stayed three nights, so we had the breakfast on the two days prior. We did not "return at 8:15 and go to bed," either. I don't know where that's come from, since there was no one in the hotel. The kind owners of the White Stag Inn let us sit in their warm and candlelit pub until 10pm, and shared that they don't understand why anyone would stay in the Ben Sheann. Their hospitality made the night bearable. If you need to stay in Strathyre, I'd stay with them.
Finally, it's not "blackmail" to note that this place is a dump, and that in a powercut, the hotel owner made no accommodations at all for guest safety. Stay at your own risk. You're basically paying for a large bothy.
