A Medieval Castle with comfortable modern rooms

Unique location with spectacular views and an association with family history. You get to stay in a medieval castle with modern rooms and bathrooms. Plenty of hot water. You can tour the museum rooms and climb all the way to the top of a 1200 year old tower. They even opened the dungeon for us to see, and that might be original equipment down there. Fascinating.

Staffing is minimal, and don't arrive on a Sunday! Our train was an hour late, and our ride from the castle had given up and left. Cabs don't generally operate on a Sunday in Bullay, where the trains come in. The castle is only 5 km from the station, but it is across the river in Alf, and at the top of a mountain. We had to move heaven and earth to find a ride, got stranded for 3 hours at the train station, and finally dragged in 2 hours after the last check in time in the dark . No one monitors phones, texts or emails on Sunday, and the Sunday staff didn't speak any English . We are glad we went, and I recommend it, but don't plan to arrive on a Sunday! Meals at the castle are expensive, but pretty good and the only place to eat at the top of the mountain.

Stay like a knight

We spent 2 nights, and it was just perfect to hike, and explore a few of the villages around Alf!

The staff and location are definitely the best. Staff was very kind and communication went well even if we don’t speak German. The location is amazing - indeed a castle, you feel back in time. The garden is beautiful and the area super peaceful. The hotel is 10 minutes walking from the main hiking trails in the region, and it is easy to access by car. Plus: very pet friendly!

Beautiful castle. So much fun to visit and tour. Updated nicely but it remains an historic time capsule

Beautiful setting. The castle is a nice blend of history and modern updates. You can live like modern royalty instead of medieval royalty! The staff is wonderful and the restaurant excellent. We would, and most likely will return.

Nothing, the hotel did not answer the phone and when we arrived noone opened. They also do not answer now that I ask for a reimbursememt

Complete disregard for the Covid hygiene measures

A complete disregard for the Covid hygiene measures. Only one person was wearing a mask the rest of the staff neither kept their distance nor wore a mask indoors. No one checked if we had a vaccination passport. Even some of the guests ran around indoors without masks.

Beautiful Castle Hotel

Simple clean rooms in a Castle high above the valley. Extremely friendly staff and nice breakfast. I had a nice dinner of regional specilties of Germany. The location is very quiet and restful above the valley.

Fabuleux

Un lieu insolite, véritablement hors du temps, où la déconnexion est totale. Nous y avons été accueillis avec une grande bienveillance, chaleureusement, comme des hôtes privilégiés. Le repas du soir était délicieux et le petit déjeuner absolument exceptionnel. La qualité de la chambre est irréprochable, confortable et pleine de charme. Le cadre et l’emplacement du château sont tout simplement fabuleux. Une expérience unique que je recommande sans hésiter.

Übernachtung in einer echten Burg

Man muss sich bewusst sein, dass man in einer echten denkmalgeschützten Burg wohnt, die auch ein sehr schönes Museum beherbergt – entsprechend hoch ist auch der Preis. Der Ausblick von der Burg ist magisch, die Innen- und Außenbereiche des Anwesens sind sehr schön gestaltet. Die Gastgeberin ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit bei allem, was man braucht. Die Ausstattung könnte etwas besser sein (z. B. ein Kühlschrank im Zimmer oder Hygieneartikel), aber das Erlebnis, in einer Burg zu übernachten, macht eventuelle Mängel mehr als wett.

Locatie met adembenemend uitzicht, zowel vanaf het terras als van de toren. Plezierige ontvangst. Uitstekend ontbijt. En voor de liefhebber: een vriendelijke kat.

Geen lunch of diner wegens afwezigheid van de kok. Badkamer aan de krappe kant, wel brandschoon. En wie niet goed ter been is, kan het beter elders zoeken: het antieke kasteel heeft geen lift, wel zware trappen.

Le charme du lieu, le confort de la literie, la gentillesse du personnel. Le cadre vraiment insolite.

Le prix du repas, beaucoup trop cher pour le repas servi. 52€ par personne.

Zonder te verblijven verder gereisd.

De locatie was prachtig. Op een berg met uitzicht op de Moezel.

Op basis van de foto’s op de site en de prijs verwachtten we een redelijk luxe, in ieder geval goed verzorgd, hotel met gezelligheid, een lekkere maaltijd en een lekker drankje. ‘s-Morgens op die basis geboekt. Per ongeluk had ik niet gezien dat je voor 17:00 uur in moest checken. Gelijk een mail gestuurd dat het later zou worden. In de mail die ik terugkreeg stond het verzoek te bellen als we er bijna waren en dat er een toeslag op de prijs gold. Apart, maar oké. Telefonisch 7 maal contact opgenomen, geen gehoor. Toen maar een mail gestuurd met de verwachte aankomsttijd. ‘s-Avonds aangekomen was de weg naar boven niet netjes bijgehouden en gemaaid. Dat gaf te denken. Boven gekomen, werden we door een buurvrouw verwelkomd, maar was het hotel verder verlaten. Geen personeel en geen andere gasten. Geen restaurant en de buurvrouw kon ons dan wel voorzien van een drankje. Het laatste was goed bedoeld, maar het geheel voldeed totaal niet aan onze verwachting en kwam ook ons inziens niet overeen met de foto’s op Bookings. Onverzorgd gedateerd, verlaten en ongezellig. Jammer dat de informatie op Bookings ons heeft misleid. Zonde van het reeds betaalde geld, want dat waren we kwijt, maar wij zijn doorgereisd naar een ander hotel.

Upealla paikalla oleva linnahotelli.

Todella erilainen ja mukava paikka vuoren päällä. Aamiainen oli hyvä. Illallinen (puolihoito) oli mielestäni erinomainen. Varsinkin kun söimme sen ulkona hienojen maisemien ääressä, koska oli todella lämmin ilta. Linnan puisto ja museo ovat mielenkiintoisia tutustua. Huone oli hyvä.

Huone oli aika pieni varsinkin hintaansa nähden. Hotellissa ei ole ilmastointia joten kesällä voi olla kuuma nukkua. Tosin linnan seinät ovat paksut. Ensimmäisessä huoneessa oli todella tunkkainen haju. Onneksi saimme heti vaihtaa toiseen huoneeseen.

Herausragende Lage, tolle Burg, Service auf Basisniveau.

Die Lage der Burg ist überragend. Unser Zimmer war sehr groß. Wir hatten unseren Hund dabei, der überall willkommen war.

Nicht gefallen ist übertrieben, allerdings war der Service schwierig. Ich würde es eine rustikale Freundlichkeit nennen. Das Frühstück war ok, dennoch hätte ich etwas anderes erwartet. Am Ende war eine detaillierte Rechnungsprüfung notwendig, da es für das Hotel offensichtlich nicht sichtbar war, das wir bereits den Aufenthalt und das Frühstück über booking.com bezahlt hatten.
