Aspri Villa

The apartment we've had was cosy and comfortable, with a large terrace and a very well-equipped kitchen. There is a garden with palm trees that provide shadow during daytime and a small swimming pool where you may chill when not at the beach. All the windows and doors had mosquito nets (there are a lot of mosquitos in the area, as the mouth of Acheron River is nearby). The villa is close to the beach but I recommend driving not walking. The beach is wonderful (sand, smooth entry into the sea, the water a little bit more cold than other places due to Acheron spreading into the sea, yet the estuary gives a lovely landscape you can't get enough of watching). The place is very quiet, appropriate for people looking to relax and not party, however the hosts are throwing a welcoming party with live Greek music every week, for their guests. The highlights of this villa are its hosts, a German couple so welcoming and friendly they could make you come back again next year just to have another drink with them. Also, they organize trips to various sightseeings in the area and I would like to mention they took us on a trip even if the boat was not full due to cancellation of the other travellers, waving away profit for the satisfaction of their guests. We can't thank them enough for the dolphin tour.

Even if my understanding is that this is a common policy in the area, I would like to mention that the price does not include daily cleaning. I suppose it is possible to ask for it, against an extra-charge, we didn't. The only downside of the accomodation for me was there were no blankets (only bed sheets) and just a tiny pillow for each person (which for me was too small). But the beds were comfortable and there is enough space for clothes in the closet.

Our hosts met us to give us the door code to our upgraded apartment, which we appreciated. They were helpful and attentive, going out of their way to make us feel welcome and at home, introducing us to friends and local restaurants. Because of the time of year we were the only guests at the property, giving us a high degree of privacy, which we were happy with. The location was a good base for our travels, with ancient historical sites within striking distance, and local beaches are delightful. Heidi's lemon marmalade is excellent.

We wish we could speak better German. Uwe's English is far better and he did his best to keep us in the conversational loop.

We absolutely loved our stay at Aspri Villa and are already planning our return ! Heidi and Uwe are brilliant hosts and we really enjoyed the speedboat trip to see dolphins and the sailing trip to Paxos & Anti Paxos. Ammoudia is a lovely quiet village with some lovely restaurants. The beach is perfect for kids with shallow calm water. We also loved being next to the Acheron river and enjoyed a kayak afternoon spotting turtles.
