Very special old property. We were made very welcome and had a great night. We especially loved the history talk, and the piano during dinner.

Having stayed in many hotels over the years, it is refreshing to find somewhere with genuine character and atmosphere. If you are looking for a modern, sterile hotel, this is probably not the place for you. If, however, you want the experience of staying in a real castle, Appleby Castle is truly special. Yes, parts of the castle show their age, but that is exactly what I expected and part of its charm. My room was large, clean, comfortable and great fun, complete with a magnificent four-poster bed. The private shower and toilet were in a separate room, and the provision of dressing gowns somehow added to the traditional castle experience. The highlight of the stay was undoubtedly the evening meal, which was absolutely superb. Combined with live piano music, friendly and attentive service, and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, it made for a memorable evening. This is not just a place to sleep; it is an experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, have stayed before, and fully intend to return again in the future. Highly recommended for anyone looking for history, character, comfort and a unique experience.

Nothing. The castle is historic and has all the character, quirks and atmosphere that come with a building of its age. It delivered exactly the experience I was hoping for, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
