We loved everything

So, here’s my honest take on this place and the island itself: The hotel is clean, and the owners genuinely try to create a family-friendly atmosphere. However, there are a few things you should be aware of, which we weren’t.

First, there were branches hitting the roof from the very beginning, and it took them a few days to fix it. We had a few sleepless nights because the banging was so loud. Only after a strong intervention, when we were really furious, did they finally fix it. Second, the shower head was broken, and again the staff must have been aware of that, but they would not fix it until you specifically asked them to. The room wasn’t always cleaned at the same time in the morning. So, if you left for the beach, you might be surprised to find that your room hadn’t been cleaned while you were away. You’ll notice the dirt in the bathroom if you look closely. If you check the top of the closet, you’ll see years of dust, which suggests the cleaning isn’t very thorough. Third, they treated us like a cash cow, which is common in Vietnam. For example, we decided to extend our stay by one day. Given the circumstances, particularly the sleepless nights caused by the noise earlier, we had hoped they would offer us an extra night for free. Although we would have refused and paid for the night anyway, it would have been appreciated if they had at least offered us that option or a discount. But no, they charged us the full booking price, even though they didn’t have to pay the booking commission because the night had been booked outside the system. Fourth, the beach, which is close to the hotel, looks nice until you realize there are sewage pipes throwing all the polluted water straight into the sea, very close to where you sunbathe and swim. The pipes are either hidden under a little pier or there’s a sign that says, “Don’t worry, it’s only groundwater,” (take a left when you enter the beach) which is clearly a lie because the water coming out of it stinks. Finally, you need to realize that Phu Quoc is extremely dirty. There’s trash everywhere, even though the hotel itself is trying to be clean. You’ll smell the rotten trash and food leftovers during most of your stay.
