Residenza La Mannara

The pool. The house is big (simply furnished). The terrace. The view from the terrace and from the pool. Note that there are 2 twin houses/apartments. There is some privacy but you share the pool with the other house. That can be an advantage to book both houses if you travel with 2 families.

Not linked to the property: quite a lot of mosquitos, but the house is fully equipped with moskito nets at the doors and windows. There is good internet but almost no 4G.

Location: High up on a winding dirt road above a friendly little town that is not in the least bit touristy, you have Rome one way, Napoli the other, and beaches galore in either direction. Or you could just stay put and soak up the sea views and the sun. The pool: cordoned off from the house by a low stone wall and trees and herbs including rosemary and sage, this private perch overlooking the surrounding hills and islands is perfectly sized for the bigger family (word to the wise, take along friends and make sure you get both houses as well as the pool to yourselves). The terrace: the stunning view and heat call for alfresco dining - and you will be grateful for some much-needed shade.

We liked everything but we would have loved it even more if we had softer beds and pillows, proper kitchen utensils - sharper knives, better pots and pans, a potato peeler - less patchy wi-fi, and a decent outdoor grill with lid.
