I Casali del Trebbiolo

This was our last stay on the Via Degli Dei walk and the reviews were not too promising - but this grand old property is in a beautiful location and we were surprised by the spacious and quiet room, in a good way. The chap on the front desk was very helpful. We did not eat in the restaurant but enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine on the terrace in the evening.

The property is past its glory days and its bohemian charm would not be appreciated by everyone. It was fine for us. Our room was clean and comfortable but the exterior/gardens etc could do with some love.

An amazing Tuscany farm. Lovely swimming pool. Easy access to a five-hour hike to Fiesole.

Bathroom shower faucet plumbing could be improved.

The setting of the farmhouses is beautiful, with amazing views over the valley. The external areas of the buildings and surrounding gardens were well presented. Its a 40 minute walk from the Via Degli Dei route. Very friendly staff The bedroom was clean and nicely looked after with characterful features.

Upon arrival the main building felt very empty - we had to wait in the lobby area for a little while until someone came out to greet us and take us to our room. It felt like there was nobody else on the estate and we were not expected despite having a booking. The internal spaces in the main building felt very tired and in need of upkeep. We were told that dinner would be a set menu and 30 euros per person exc drinks but were not told what was being served. The food served and overall dining experience did not meet the standard we hoped for 30 euros. The overall atmosphere didn't feel considered. I.e. no music playing while eating, external lighting was not switched on, overhearing discussion in the kitchen throughout the meal, wine not chilled, very basic food presentation. The shower in the ensuite was very difficult to use, installed at the wrong height and temp control and shower outlet do not seem to be working properly. There was no WiFi in the room. The entire hotel feels like it has huge potential, the setting and buildings are beautiful but the atmosphere, upkeep and general quality of the service fell short of what we had hoped for.
