Gorgeous cottage in a quiet street with fabulous views and everything you could want. We loved staying a week in this lovely spot. The cottage is so comfy and has everything you need to stay for a great, relaxing holiday. Very homely and everything worked! There is no wifi but the cottage gets good reception so we just used our phones without an issue. The village is small but has cafes, supermarket, petrol station, and pubs, one of which (The Scotsman's Pack) is literally at the bottom of the road, 3 mins walk away, and it is great! Some lovely walks directly out of the village and others are an easy drive through the gorgeous Peak District.
The mattress on the bed definitely needs replacing! The only thing that put a bit of a dampner on the holiday. And check in instructions could be better. Communication between booking.com and us was non-existant when we sent messages and it appears the owner doesn't have an email or look at messages. We had to call him which was difficult for us as we only had a data plan on our esim. Ended up borrowing a phone at our previous accommodation.

Location, and sense of history. Beautiful birdsong in garden.
Kitchen utensils and pots could do with an update.

The house was well equipped clean and well furnished. We liked the simplicity of it all. There was no unnecessary clutter - some cottages have lots of old leaflets about things to do in the area, we appreciated not having lots of things lying around. Outside there were good garden chairs and in the back garden a picnic bench. The views were beautiful. We felt very secluded despite other properties nearby and shops and cafes were within easy walking distance. We also enjoyed the church bells. There are so many lovely walks from the door we hope to visit again next year.

Beautiful cottage in a great location and super cozy for a March stay. Hathersage itself was quiet during the week but there was a warm welcome and great food at The Scotsmans Pack near the cottage, and The George Hotel in the village. Nice walking routes right out the back and we made good use of the bus running up and down the Hope Valley for access to other walks and a day out in Sheffield. Sitting out the front looking over the valley and listening to the birds in the morning was a real joy. It's a great balance of a proper little hideaway with easy access to amenities and transport links.
Mobile phone signal and internet access was better than expected, though no wifi as specified. The off-road parking area was very handy.
There was some credit in the electricity meter when we arrived which was helpful.
As has been referenced in other reviews, the check in process is a real problem. You receive a booking confirmation asking you to phone the owner to make arrangements, but no one answers the phone and there is no answerphone. Messages via Booking.com were not responded to. Eventually I rang another number from the booking page and got through to Hoseasons, who transferred me to Booking.com, who put me on hold while they called the owner. Message came back that the original phone number was out of date and a mobile number was then provided instead. Finding the key on arrival was very straightforward, but I could have done without the stress of struggling to get in touch during the preceding days while I was trying to wind up work before my week off. This issue has obviously happened before so the owner really needs to update their details.
The electricity runs off a meter that needs pound coins. The listing should mention this upfront. If you tend to get cold, or plan to make heavy use of the electric 'log burner' or the oven you would need to make sure you've got enough change. Also, if you are planning to cook anything, particularly in the oven you may want to take your own pans/trays as the selection is limited.

Great house, but appalling service by Booking.com/Cottages.com - will never use this company again.
Booking.com cancelled my original booking of a different cottage, then when I booked this one instead, reinstated the first booking and threatened to charge me for both. I spent hours on the phone sorting it out. No apology or interest from customer services.
For Highbury Cottage, the website said to phone the owner on a landline to arrange key pickup. I called repeatedly, no answer or voicemail. I messaged through the site, no answer either. The day before arrival I had no idea how to get the keys. I spent a long time on a 'live chat', slowly realising I was communicating with unhelpful bots. When I finally got through to a human, they gave me the owner's mobile number - which apparently should have been on the website all along.
But it's an interesting, cosy, spacious old house in brilliant location - recommended.
A bit skimpy on kitchen equipment - bring a roasting dish if you like to cook. Run hot tap very slowly for baths.

All parts of the village are easily accessible from the property. Country walks from the doorstep.
A little more information would have been helpful before arrival of how to find the keys

Location allowed you to walk straight out onto the hills, close to facilities, shop, pub, restaurants, including a train along the valley, either direction into Sheffield or Manchester. 3-4 th stay well worth it.
