Well, where do I start… booked the hotel over a year in advance. Really wanted something very special for our wedding night and the first night after being married. Engaged with the staff couple of times prior to ensure everything was in order, our very small requests covered and smooth check in experience prior to our stay. We were assured this was not a problem, twice, when booking and few days prior to our stay. My husband dropped off our bags earlier and checked us in, so we thought. Got to the hotel after our party. Not checked in, payment not taken. Last thing we wanted to do was to deal with that after our wedding. Staff did not even acknowledge that we just got married and were spending our wedding nights there. We mentioned at the reception it’s our wedding night, I had a wedding dress on and bridal hair etc, not even a response , no congratulations, no how was your night. Room was comfortable but basic, again no mention about us getting married. After such a great wedding we had, we got such an underwhelming experience at the hotel and cold reception. Disappointed, very, doesn’t even start to cover it. Had to mention it to the reception staff the next day, after a long wait in the queue, kind of asking for them to take any notice. Little bit was done to recover from the night before experience , got a small gesture of a plate with shortbread, tablet, couple of berries for the 2nd night. Staff at the bar and restaurant after the initial night was very nice and attentive, hence the score is little higher than first intended. Spoke to a manager, in length , after checking out. Who was very apologetic and said they will speak to the staff involved. Hoping that we’ll stay again … Nothing else. We paid a high price for our stay because we booked so far in advance. Would have got the rooms at the hotel for less than half price if we had waited, or similar calibre of hotels were about half of what we paid.

No taxis available at the station and having to walk in torrential rain, obviously that’s not the fault of the hotel
